I purchased a Kingston 3.1 128GB USB flash drive back in September for my new 2019 Tacoma TRD Sport factory head unit.

I use an iMac and iTunes on my home computer. I had about 500 individual song titles in my iTune's library which I copied onto the USB. Plugged it into my truck and everything worked great. I had a new amp and Focal speakers installed in the truck and it sounds amazing playing from the USB.

So I decided to invest in some more music by purchasing through iTunes about 300 songs this past October and November. All 300 paid songs downloaded into my library on my iMac from the iTunes Store. I copied these 300 songs from my library onto my USB stick and my factory head is only reading the original 500 titles but very few if any of the recent 300 titles I have just added. The screen shows 1/495 playing. There are 692 songs on the USB stick.

This evening I removed the USB stick from my truck and plugged it into my iMac and all 692 songs play from the stick on my computer. I have looked at all the files names and extensions and file types and the ones not playing have the same file extensions as the ones which are playing. There are no partitions that I can see. The drive is 128GB and there's ton's of room left on it. I'm stumped.

So I suspect it is the truck not reading the stick for whatever reason.

Looking for some help if anyone has encountered similar issues.

    Cheers

So you ADDED the new media to existing?

Maybe try reformatting the media and adding ALL at the same time?

I had a similar problem. Here is what I discovered and did to make everything play nice.

1 - I Formatted my SanDisk 128GB USB 3.0 drive to FAT32. Your new drive should be FAT32 already but double check anyway.

2 - Placed a bunch of folders in the drive...I'm up to 12 at the moment.

3 - In each folder I have 199 .mp3 music files - no more, except for the last folder - that is where I add any new music. I will continue to add music until I get to 199 files then start another folder.

    That's it

Most songs on the USB are .m4a (98%) however a very few are .mp3 and .mp2
All the new ones are .m4a

Success - I just deleted all the files on the USB and noted it was already formatted FAT32. I created 5 folders and divided my music to about 150 files per folder. I uploaded to the USB drive and took it to the truck. It's now reading all the music. So I just purchased another 50 songs this evening. I created a sixth folder and uploaded those 50 songs to the USB and they are also now reading in the truck.

So thank you everyone for your help. I'm not sure I would have ever figured that out myself.

Yeah, I was going crazy trying to figure out what the heck was wrong...no one seemed to have posted any fix and the manual was no help. I stumbled on a video a guy made but he was addressing the head unit in an older Corolla. I tried his method and everything worked! You can stick to 150 per folder but I can verify that 199 works fine too.

Another thing I did to make navigating the music easier for me was this:

I have 2 daughter that like to take over the music playing when they are with me. And depending on my mood I like listening to different types of music. This is not really relevant to the folders you put the music in (although I wish it was) but to how the music it tagged.
The head unit lets you select music by ARTIST, ALBUM, SONG, GENRE and COMPOSER. And in the display it will only show 3 lines of info for a track - Song TITLE, ARTIST, and ALBUM.
So what I did to make it easy for me to pick different types of music was I bulk tagged all of my daughters music to reflect the same ALBUM name and I also tagged a few soundtracks by the soundtrack name to play them specifically. I tagged the different styles of music that I listen to ROCK, METAL, RAP, DUBSTEP and a generic "TUNES" name to everything else.

You do this by selecting ALL the music files you want to tag (selecting them turns them all blue in windows) then right click and select Properties. Then select the Details tab. There I changed the ALBUM name to whatever I wanted and click Apply. That made all the files reflect the same ALBUM name.

When I have the girls with me I just go into the BROWSE section of the head unit and select there specific ALBUM and the head unit will play all of that music. What's nice is that you can play everything or just a specific type of music this way.
Maybe this will help someone also...
