Don’t worry, Toyota will be suggesting 12 or 13k oil change intervals in a few years, as that’s closer to the average miles driven per year.

I thought this was about running it for 30K. laughs. 15 sounds mild now.

A trigger warning should be put in the title of this thread for both the 0/20 and the extended intervals.

'Cause you know the types that believe Rotella 15/40 every 3k is the only acceptable thing in their 3rd gens are laying in bed wide awake with their left eye twitching saying..."no way. Science can't be true. My grandfather said otherwise".

When did you start running the 10k interval at 30k? Did you run 5k intervals prior to that? I’m at 10k now and have done two changes at 5k interval with oem oil. Gonna switch To amsoil signature next change. Thinking at 15k. Might do one more 5k at 20 just to keep numbers even and then go to 10k intervals.

Toyota did the first two changes.... I started at 30k. 10k is easy to keep up with.

Dealer did first two at 10K and 20K. I did the rest at 10K intervals. I use Mobil Advanced Fuel Economy or something like that. 0W-20.

Funny thing about the "operation" note they mentioned at 90K.

With my new job, I travel a whole lot and never get to drive my truck anymore. It might be a bit before the next update. ;)

I change every 5k because I have paid maintenance. Last oil change (45k) mechanic showed me oil specs/charts on a test dealer runs on oil and differential fluids and based on his analysis, I feel I could easily go 10k. Using Toyota stock synthetic out of a drum. At this rate, things are looking really good. I had them change rear differential and I’ll have them change the front at next go-around.

FWIW, i changed my tranny, rear and front diff at about 18k miles. Tranny and rear diff were not bad at all, the front was disgusting. Was pure black color with a lot of metal flakes in the fluid.

Thank you for offering all the factual and scientific information you have provided. Great info, polite with your replies and quick responses.

I have a new 2021 Tacoma 4x4 V6 and will be following your 10k intervals...with two exception. Since we drive short trips less than 20 miles, I will start my first change at 5k miles the second at 10k. From there on out, 10k intervals with OEM filter, Penzoil Plat 0W-20.

    Thanks again.

When i owned my 01 tundra i changed the front differential fluid at the first 30k miles. It was the same as you describe...really disgusting, a milky black fluid with plenty of metal flakes mixed in. Rear differential was pretty clean. At any rate i replaced the fluid again at 60k and it wasn't a whole lot better. Seemed at 90k it was looking pretty good from there on. Transfer case imo, looked great at 30k when replaced so i let it go to 90k before replacing it again. As far as the atf....every 15k miles till i sold the truck with 292k miles, AT was still performing like new.
