My dad's friends had a deer camp. All founding members ,Dad included, were WW2 Vets.
This is where I started, and learned how to hunt.

One Vet was at Pearl during the attack and he usually shot his deer, almost like clockwork, on "his"day.
It was an honor to know these guys.:oldglory:

    Morning all

My dad was born in 1928, he was too young. He watched his brother go to war.
When he turned 18 he enlisted but it was over by the time he deployed. He was in the occupying force in Japan.

    Paratrooper.

    He hated flying.

Passed 6 years ago on the 22nd of Dec

I'm glad I got a chance to hear stories from that generation. A few Normandy landings, Pacific theater operations, and stories from the states during that time.

Did you know that women painted hosiery, including seams, on their legs because of shortages. Great until it got sweaty.

My dad was also born in 28. Dropped out of school, my grandfather had to sign so he could join the Army at age 17. Six weeks accelerated basic training and straight to Japan for guard duty.

My dad was born in '28, as well. He wasn't in WWII, he went to Korea. Wish I'd gotten to ask him about his younger years.... he's been gone 21 years. :-(

    So far....

Sandy took the Terry cloth cover off Jenni's "nest" and made a thing to bury Jenni in.

I buried the coolest pet EVER....

Then we drove over to the park to watch Ky raptor rehab release a bald eagle that was struck by a car almost a year ago.

Two AWESOME birds found their freedom.

    Fly high...

Good morning. I think I missed the whole week. I see I missed a very important birthday. Even Andy got dressed for a bit.

@MTgirl Happy Belated Birthday!!! Hope you had a wonderful day and are still celebrating this weekend. Oh, to be 30 again. ;)

My next door neighbor, when I was a kid, had been in WWII. I was a latch key kid and spent my afternoons over at his house having milk & cookies. He taught me how to garden, deep sea fish, and... Play poker. He was a submariner and never talked about it.

One gent in the deer camp was a veteran of WW1 and a native of Peacham Vermont.
He used to run booze from Canada during prohibition via horse sled during Winter months. Interesting stuff for a kid like me back then.
