So I ordered an @Baja Designs 20" LED lightbar as part of my SSO Slimline Bumper. While the bumper and lightbar haven't arrived yet, I do have the S8 wire harness because I ordered that directly from BD when I ordered some fogs. Today I am running wires through the firewall for my air compressor, so I figured I'd run the wire harness for the lightbar while I am at it too.

The rocker switch that comes with the harness only has a positive and negative wire. I've tried searching and can't figure out how to wire up a CH4x4 switch so that it works correctly. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

You need a relay for all CH4x4 switches

The S8 harness comes with a relay, in fact it should come with a switch also.

Yes to both. But I’d like to wire it up to the CH4x4 switch as it looks cleaner.

So I’m thinking. I wired up the switch for my compressor like this:
Green to an add-a-fuse on the dome light circuit.
Red 2 to an add-a-fuse on the tail light circuit.
At this point could I just run red 1 to the red from the lightbar harness, and black to the black on the lightbar harness?

I’m not sure if I tried this combination today. At least I ran the harness through the firewall so that when the lightbar comes I don’t have to do that.

Website switch description indicates ch4x4 switches are rated for 12 volt 20 amp, so relay is only necessary if switch is “operating” a system rated for more than 20 amps.

When I bought my switches they were rated for 3 amps, either way it’s smart to always run a relay regardless

Went out to the truck again today to test out another configuration. I think I figured it out, but can't know for sure until the lightbar comes in (I don't have it because it is coming with the SSO bumper that I ordered). With that being said, I think I have the switch wired correctly like this:
    • green on the switch to the red on the harness to the bar
    • red 1 on the switch I did not connect anything to
    • red 2 on the switch I used an add-a-fuse to connect to the taillight circuit (the words on the switch illuminate when the dash lights come on)
    • black on the switch to the black wire on the harness to the light bar

When wired up like this the words light up with the headlights, and the top part lights up when I activate the switch. I tested voltage at the connector ends and never saw anything. However, I also tested voltage at the relay. Testing the pin labeled 87 (see picture below), I get roughly 9 volts when the switch is turned on, and nothing with it off. I'm no electrician but I think this is the desired result? Anyone who know about how to read the relay diagram see another explanation?

Did this wiring work correctly for your Baja Designs S8 and oem-style switch?

With this setup, does the top part illuminate when the light bar is on? That was the only thing I couldn’t get to function. The bottom part lights up with the dash, but when I turn the bar on the whole switch goes dark.

Yes, the bottom lights up with the dash lights and the top lights up when the switch is activated

Ok good to know. I feel like I tried all possible combinations, especially since red 2 and the black from the switch aren’t variables. I made a few posts and called companies and still got no luck beyond what I posted above. I’m going to be tearing my dash apart in a few weeks as part of a wiring overhaul, so I’ll try your setup again. It really bugs me how the switch shuts off when the lightbar is on.
