Friend of mine needs his windshield replaced on his 95 or 96. When he looked over the OEM diagram it shows parts: dam 56117-35020, windshield 56111-04050, reveal molding 75531-04020

What is the correct way to replace the windshield and what parts should be ordered (OEM)

Don't know how your insurance works, but last time I needed a new windshield, it was free (waved the deductible).

Safelite did mine yesterday. They warrant their work for a lifetime against leaking. Price was very reasonable too. I wouldn’t change it myself and I’m typically very DIMDS(do it my damn self). I paid $233 total.

Windshields are the kind of thing you don’t want to replace yourself. Installation uses a kind of butyl adhesive that is very hard to work with, and even harder to remove if you do it improperly. This is one you leave up to the professionals.

Call around. You will find the cost of installation and window will be very close to you just buying the glass and urthane adhesive. If it saves you $40 I would be surprised.

Make sure the place you hire primes any bare metal after they scrape paint off. My taco has rust coming up from under the rubber molding around the glass now i have to remove the windshield clean it up and paint it before my roof starts leaking.

The Tacoma windshield is installed in the same way most modern vehicles are done. Most glass places rarely use the dam kit, and are confused if you give it to them.

I’ve done a few windshields including on a 3rd gen 4Runner which is similar to the Tacoma. Here’s a thread outlining the process on my Lexus. I’ve found most glass installers to take less care with the installation than I’d like.

Yeah they replaced all of the rubber around the windshield. The guy did a really good job. I’d trust safelite to replace it again if the need ever arose.

Call around to your local glass shops, I found one that was cheaper than Safe Light, and they did an outstanding job.
