That is a known issue on 2019s, several guys had to be in rentals for an extended period of time as they were on national backorder.

why did they fail? I know its not recommended not to drive with less than a quarter tank of gas cause it could damage the fuel pump

There are quite a few Threads on here for the failures, if memory serves me the problem pumps were the ones in the tank and not the HPFP. Not sure if Toyota ever explained why they failed, possibly someone could have mentioned it in one of those threads though.

having over a 1/4 tank of gas is essential to keep the fuel pump cool and not over heat and fail, those people probably were running under an 1/8 of a tank of gas and overheated the fuel pump

I highly doubt that was the issue, the pump ended up on national backorder because of failures, more than likely just a bad batch of pumps were produced.

That’s an old wives tale. Modern pumps are internally lubricated by fuel passing through it. They don’t need to be submerged.

most fuel pump failures are associated with running below 1/4 tank of gas for extended periods of time, other than on TW forums you never hear of failing fuel pumps are a symptom of a bad part.

That article is written 8 years ago by an amateur mechanic/writer about 1995-2011 trucks.

The problem was on 2019s only, I highly doubt there was a nationwide conspiracy by 2019 owners to all try to make their pumps fail at the same time. Faulty parts are produced sometimes, I'm sure it was limited to a batch and Toyota does the right thing by changing them under warranty.

Just crickets from Bill ... he must be scouring the Internet for the perfect GIF with which to punctuate his compelling counter-argument ....

Hi all - EIGHT days later, I'm driving my truck again. ( I remained at family's house 6 hours from my home b/c I do not live near a dealership. I was given a loaner eventually, thanks to support I was given here by YOU)

The master tech was able to re-create the issue once. He reports pin hole size holes in exhaust welding. ( he didn't seem totally confident in that but it's more or less what I heard from him the first day I brought in and upon pick up). He replaced the manifolds. Attached is the parts list. (If anyone else should come looking for similar issue). The service managers were kind people but I think they screwed up the timeliness of my repair and more than once their reports to me were total lies. For what it's worth, I liked and trusted this tech.

Maybe they just re-set the computer and sent me on my way> dunno> but I've got burns from this event and now have a paper trail. and recorded calls. and.....
