I've done my 20k mile service. But would ToyotaCare cover a transmission or diff fluid check?

I just dont want to find out later that something wasn't right and would have been covered under ToyotaCare.

Don't you have paperwork explaining what Toyota Care covers?

Did you ask for them to just check the ATF? Or did they do a full vehicle inspection (a real one, not like the half-assed one I got when I had my oil changed)

Does your dealer allow you to watch?

Is the tech a personal friend?

If no to both, how will you know what they inspected or didn't inspect, regardless of what some paperwork may say?

You're rolling the dice on the integrity of the tech who draws duty with your truck. Other than the car wash / porter guy, the lowest paid in the shop, as it's the simplest work.

asked for the tans fluid check. This was 3 years ago when there were issues of delayed shifting. Would reverse then put in drive but would take a few seconds to engage into drive. Thought it was a fluid low level and they said it was a little low so topped it off. A month later found out there was a recall for the issue. Went back up for the recall. Didn’t pay for anything at any time.

I’m very pleased my Toyota Care has ended, I will now use my local trusted mechanic. I’m not sure the “free” care was worth the time and effort and aggravation of visiting the dealership.

They 'might' check it, or the might 'tell' you they checked it.
Will they actually check it? Possibly.

My truck hasn't been back to the dealership since the day I left with it.

I thought all that Toyotacare covered was 2 oil changes and 4 tire rotations.

Yup which is why it's a total joke. I went for the free oil change and double-checked everything in the parking lot before I leave.

However, they should be doing inspections but those are a crapshoot speaking as a former dealer tech. You look for obvious issues but no tech is popping the diff plug and checking that fluid unless you're due and he's trying to upsell.

Trans or diff check would not be something covered under Toyota Care. If you have issues it would be something probably covered under your warranty.

    Short answer is NO.

All fluids are checked and certified to be correctly filled by the manufacturer and the dealer/techs are only responsible for visuals such as P/S MC oil and coolant. So unless there is reason (usually a leak) to suspect it’s low, its not necessary.

The fact is, it is sealed for a reason. More damage is done by people, both professionals and DIY while checking, adding wrong lubricants, and introducing contaminants than any other reason.

    Drive on

That is covered under Powertrain warranty, which is 60month/60k miles.
