Looks nice. So you're using Waze/Google maps for navigation?

I had the Alpine ILX-107 w/ Maestro- not missing anything without, but I thought the gauges and other info was kinda a sideshow...

Hackery- ouch you people :) Just trying to make the world a better place here. But I get it, packaged and polished surely feels a bit better.

What about the door lock setting or light settings (Auto off, DRL, interior timer)
Also for the center dash multimedia screen, was options are lost when you change out the head unit?

The Alpine w/ Maestro never seemed to sync with the center dash screen- but I really didn't try to troubleshoot it. I set all the Auto off, DRL, locks, timers with the factory headunit- and don't forsee myself changing anything in the future as I like how its all working. Always have the factory unit to plug in should I need to change something I suppose.

Ha! No hate here, bub. YOUR hackery looks great! The problem here is me and my lack of hackery skills. I'd have made a GIGANTIC mess of that.

    I hear ya :)

Finally got the Taco Garage DSM and Tackform phone mount installed today. The little magnetic wire holder is quite handy.

I believe these settings can be adjusted with the Carista OBD2 unit. I keep mine plugged in all the time and use BT to access the Carista from my cell phone app.

Is there an air gap behind the screen like the Halo9?

If you install it as I describe in the second post, no gap. Otherwise, if you don't want to drill the 2 small holes, you would have to mount it out far enough that you can access the 2 small mounting screws that secure the screen to the "brain" behind the dash. In that case, there would be a gap of some sort.

Well sad, that just took this HU out of the running. I hunt with my truck and where I hunt we don't always have cell coverage, the stock HU has nav that worked while I couldn't get my cell to bring up a GPS location

You can download maps onto google maps so that you don't need cell service for it to work.

yup. That’s what I do when I’m off grid. Works great. Seems most people don’t know about it tho. Cell always has accurate gps, just no data when out in mountains... I download the map area and it’s perfect offline.

Are you not able to assemble the screen to the brain before you install it, thus eliminating the need to drill into the bezel?

If you want it flat against the dash- no. The dash trim bezel opening isn’t large enough to fit over the screen if screen is installed already. If you sand/cut the bezel a bit, you may be able to make it fit over. But then you will have to make sure to fill in the gaps you've now created between the Metra radio dash kit and the newly widened bezel. Which is frankly a recipe for looking much worse than 2 small holes that you don't see from seating position.

Ideally- cutting/filling/painting the dash bezel is the way to go- but radio depth might be an issue. Id like to install it a bit deeper (which might not be possible) and then custom fill any gaps around screen to make it look totally flush installed like the factory radio. Will likely be a project for me down the road.
