I installed my 12 Volt remote start I bought on Black Friday on my 2019 Tacoma. I went to start up the truck and got an Smart Entry & Start System Check error, now my truck won’t start. I’ve check fuses and removed the remote start system. Anyone else have this error? How to fix?

    Thanks

Edit: Truck was taken to the dealership. After about a week, they determined that the issue was a loose pin in one of the ECU connectors.

Try replacing the battery in the fob?

The main key still unlocks/locks by the buttons and also by the handle. I also tried using the spare fob I have. I also put the fob right up to the push button.

Did you completely remove the remote starter and harness?

Did you disconnect the battery and hold the brake pedal down to drain any residual power?

@Sub_Par I removed the cables for all of Friday. I did not hold my foot on the brake pedal though.

Try disconnecting the trucks battery and hold the brake down for 30 secs. Might just need to reset everything.

@Sub_Par I disconnected the battery and held the brake for about a minute. Still didn’t start.

@Ronzio The security light flashes when I go to sit in the truck. Once I try to start it, the security light shuts off.

That’s what I hear. No problems at my end, haven’t even opened the box (probably should to make sure everything’s there). Just wanted to follow along since there’s some common parts here.

So far, Toyota has refused to even look at my truck because I had aftermarket parts plugged into the battery. First, they said I could just unplug them, then they called back and said I had to completely remove them myself or they would do it for $529. I removed what I could and tucked the rest of the wires away.

Can the scanner a dealer uses really pick up if there is an additional part spliced into the system, for example, the tailgate pop and lock?

Wait first you said you disconnected everything, now you say you just undid what you could and tucked wires away? You need the completely disconnect all wiring harnesses and modules, and reinstall all OEM plugs. Also reset the battery and hopefully this fixes it.

@Sub_Par The truck was running fine until installing the remote start. When I said I undid everything, I meant that I undid everything regarding the remote start system. All other after market parts were connected to the battery. I had one switch that used a fuse adapter to link into the ignition fuse.

Dealership is periodically working on the truck now. Says one of the modules is not responding, but not sure which one yet.

@Showtime I just got my truck back yesterday. Turns out there was a loose pin in one of the ECU connectors.
