What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Was going to post it on here, but had a cash buyer within 24 hours. Even I was surprised, figured the snorkel would be a turn off. College kid bought it and was super hyped, threw in my old softopper too. It went to a good home so ultimately I'm happy

 

Installed a fuel pressure regulator today. Reading at 37psi. Anybody else know what theirs is? Looking around online Gadget said it should be 43.5 and the FSM is wrong at 33-38.

 

No, this is a Vagabond Drifter. Much better construction and you can leave the sleeping platform fully extended and still access the bed.

 

You can get a GFC for a 1st gen.

GFC and Vagabond are available for 1st gen.
The Vagabond is the same between all gens, but the 3rd gen has a different attachment for the rear windoor for the stupid tailgate.

 

If I remember mine was 42psi, BUT mine was failing because apparently
under load it didn’t keep the pressure. So at idle it might look good but under
load my be not at spec.

I put a new one in and fuel trims came back to the zero area..

What are your fuel trims?

 

This what I’m chasing. Idle is high depending on the day and how I drive. As high as 12, they come down with higher RPMs but not as low as I’d like.

Replaced all the vacuum lines. No help. So now I’m getting my injectors cleaned and I probably just go ahead and get a new FPR while I’m at it. I’m also thinking of replacing my fuel filter assembly with one that has replaceable elements.

Almost everything is fairly new And OEM or Denso. MAF, Coils, wires, fuel filter, fuel pump, spark plugs, PCV.

 

Just make sure your MAF IS 100 percent OEM.
After going through 3 different MAF I went to the dealership and bought one and that also helped get me perfect readings.

I had a DENSO MAF and two others that worked but were NOT keeping
the trims correctly. There are SOOO many fake MAF.

I would buy an OEM from the dealership and if there’s a difference, if not return it

Up before sunrise, I probably scurried around camp - literally jogging from spot to spot in order to try and capture the grandeur - for a good 90 minutes before finally deciding that there was really no way I was going to be able to be in all places at once, and I'd just have to find my way back in the future so I could spend a few more days here.

That's a great value assuming those aren't cheap junk parts. Killer value man

 

Taking the UCA bolt out does help but it's not necessary if you release the brake line from the passenger side frame in two spots. You can sneak the starter out along the UCA bolt if you get the starter in the proper orientation.

@Daddo @BYJOSHCOOK these are the exact part numbers I was gonna get.

 

The Planted ones are a little easier being one piece but pricey. It still isn't predrilled for the sliders and takes several tries to get them right.
