timing belt or chain

I am wondering if my 2006 2.7 liter has a timing belt or chain

 

I believe the I4 engines have a chain and the V6 engines have a belt.

I have the 2.7 with a timing chain. I always believed that a timing chain is designed to last the life of the engine, assuming proper maintenance. Someone recently told me that the chain needs to be changed at 100k but it's not in the service schedule. I clarified with them that I have a chain, not a belt. They repeated their statement. Can I get a confirmation on the chain lasting the life of the engine?

With cheap oil filters and cheap oil that wasn't changed often enough the chain guides in the 22R and 22RE would wear out. The 2.7 is pretty much a 22R with a dual cam head. If you let the chain rattle around under the cover long enough it would eat through the cover and into the water pump housing and fill the pan with coolant..... Even with the neglect this took (usually, there's always the guy who can break a bowling ball in a rubber room) 150,000+ miles.....

Long and short of it- quality oil with a quality filter at the proper intervals and your chain should last damn near forever.

 

1gr 4.0 has a chain the 3.4 has a belt
