aftermarket radio steering wheel control modules

    I am in the selection stage of an aftermarket head unit for my 2019 with the jbl amplified radio. I am looking at a selection from crutchfield and sonic electronic. Each website recommends the following:

    sonic electronix recommends the PAC controlPRO or AXXESS ASWC-1
    crutchfield recommends the Idatalink
    $138 ADS-MRR Universal Radio Replacement and Steering Wheel Interface
    ADS-MRR and Idatalink HRN-RR-T02 wiring harness.

    my question is which one or ones are needed to maintain the steering wheel controls and maintaining the factory (for now) JBL amp? Are the ones at crutchfied better, as they are more expensive and are both modules necessary?

    finally any recommendations on headunits from Alpine, Sony, kenwood, or pioneer in the 300-500 range? there are so many to choose from. I plan to use my phone for music and navigation so i need carplay.

    The Aswc can be used to retain just steering wheel controls. It’s super easy to use.

    but if you want to retain the features in your factory HU on the aftermarket piece, use the maestro RR. It does have an SWC module built it.

    But do you need both the Meastro and the hrn re to2?

    It’s not completely necessary. But definitely worth the money because it makes installation that much simpler.
