I've seen it there before. I'm a cheap bastard though and I've always just stocked up at Lowe's during their sales in the summer. Using brickseek I just saw that I can get royal oak for $10/20lb bag at Walmart. I might give that a shot.

I'm really worried that they may not be doing the sales anymore. Last fall neither HD or Lowe's had one.

I'm below the handle on the Musky net now

I use Royal Oak in the Vortex for wings from time to time.

Last one I seen here was 4th of July, they skipped the normal Labor Day one. Did they have one where you are?

The $9.99 twin pack one is the one I look for. Used to have the sales Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day. Wondering if the surge in pellet poopers isn't putting a hurting on the briquettes and they are reducing production. At one time it was 2 x 20 lb. bags. Then they dropped to 18.6 lb. bags. Then once again to 16.7 lb. bags.

Just did a search and they are back up to 2 x 20 lb. bags again but $24 at HD here. Hope those are the ones that go on sale come Memorial Day, if there is a sale again.

Getting low enough that I am almost starting to get nervous. Much like when I get down to a quarter ton of lead shot for reloading.

Fourth of July sale HEB had theirs for $3.48 a bag if I remember correctly. HEB store brand. HEB. The national grocery store of Texas. I bought a bunch of them. Regular charcoal and some mesquite charcoal too. Mesquite on the steaks, regular for everything else.

    20190701 - Driver's side, charcoal's on sale at HEB for $3.98, big bag.jpg

But did they have the Labor Day sale one like I said? I would bet that they did not, it is Country wide at HD and Lowes through Kinsford. Hoping they just skipped the one last year for some reason. Yeah every place had the Memorial and 4th of July sale last year.

I know if they have the Memorial Day sale again this year I will buy, buy, buy.

Well, the Costco regular price for the Competition, 2-18 lb. bags, is $18.99, so I'm not sure you're doing better paying $10 for a 20 pound bag...

I still have a few bags from the last 2/20# bag deals I found at Lowe's for $12.99 I think, might have been Memorial Day this year. I have a buddy that tried using the Competition from Costco but it seems to burn hotter and in our pitbarrels that run hot already it just ends up being too much.

I love my Thermoworks equipment and have wanted an Infrared thermometer gun for a long time. Not only for cooking but measuring temperature loss around windows and doors, etc. The Industrial IR gun is on sale right now for $34.50, half off. Mine came yesterday.

Well also wanted some jelly belly beans too and they always throw a few in with the order :anonymous:

Many claim that 600° is the perfect temperature for searing steak but I prefer mine done a lot hotter and it will allow me to test that. Played around with it last night and got E3 errors at first, too great of a temperature difference. The gun needs to warm up or cool down closer to ambient temperature. Doesn't take too long. Just went outside to shoot the temperature of the outside of the kettle. -9.3° F and only took about 15 sec to adjust to the outside air temp.

Really like it a lot and feel that it was worth all of $35. Will wait until it gets to zero or a bit above before I shovel the deck off though.

I've used an IR gun for years doing HVACR work. Handy as pants pockets!
They are sensitive to ambient temps, took me a while to figure that out. Smoke inside a grill will mess with them too, just let the smoke clear a bit when the grill is opened. They are great for checking frig/freezer/oven temps too. IR does not shoot thru glass tho, gotta open the door.
