Found the how-to for 2nd gen, but not 3rd. I see it has been found to not be the same...

Is there a how-to somewhere for the 3rd gen?

I don’t think there is one for third gens but I could be wrong.

As part of anytime lock, I worked on finding a way to disable ABS and TRAC.
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...d-gen-development.537810/page-3#post-17358330

Best I found was cut power to ECU IG No 3 fuse (assuming my notes were correct). That appears to connect at pin 46 to Skid Control ECU Master Relay Connector S1. On my truck (TRD OR Access Cab 17) that appeared to disable ABS, VSC, and Crawl Control.

BUT it also killed 4WD MODE CHANGES for me. I never implemented it besides a fuse pull test...

Why would you want to kill ABS? Maybe a stupid question, or something us southern folk never need to do?

I’ve been following that anytime lock thread a bit. Will be great if / when a solution is found!

When you say it killed 4wd mode changes, do you mean that when killing abs, the ecm would then default back to 2wd? Or that it would remain in the position it was in before the kill, and that changes would simply have to made when abs is still active?

Easiest way is to induce a fault, we disconnect ABS sensors to disable the system for testing purposes. Best part is if its just an unplugged sensor, the system clears itself once remedied.

I have to back down a steep driveway and the abs system always cuts me loose at some point with a rattle and loss of breaking. Its only momentary and not total but still annoying. I can well imagine places where this would be a bad thing.

I didnt take great notes, but per memory it prevented any changes from the current setting.
(In general the diff lock fail-safe is to disengage. The 4wd mode fail-safe is to just stay at the current setting)

My curiosity is asking how that would work. Do you want your brakes to lock up while off roading?

The abs can actually extend braking distance in certain offroading situations. If you're headed towards a bad situation where a foot or two makes a difference, it would be important. Not something I would ever need, but I understand why people would want it disabled temporarily.

ABS is "disabled" when you are locked.. yes?

I guess that's not always the right combo in every situation.

Anyone have any luck with this on a 3rd gen? Wondering if the 2nd gen diff lock trick would work.

When your wheels leave the ground and you apply the brakes, there are non (with ABS), and you may want them on (brakes) as soon as your wheels land. Of course this is only for a split second, but it may make a difference.

Doesn't the ABS disable at the same time as TRAC? (Long PUSH of the button).

You could try the ignition fuse to the ABS ECU. You might have some funny codes though. The ECU is networked to other control modules.20191210_155902.jpg

None that I am aware of, and I was intimately aware on the subject a year or 2 ago, unless you are ok with the ECU disabling 4wd mode changes when you activate the overrride

I saw that one. Was hoping someone was about to come up with something similar to the 2nd gen locker trick to disable it.
