My wife got me a small Ryobi band saw (early Christmas present) man Ive already had fun with it! The spatulas or whatever are super easy to make...I had to make a different set up for my table saw but other than that just trace it out and cut then sand!

Is it just food safe mineral oil? Probably work just as good in one of those counter top toasting ovens too, huh?

Is that your only band saw? I’ve always assumed you already had a big one. I’ve looked at it a few times but don’t want to end up wishing I had gotten one capable of 6” resaw. Such a tempting one though!

yep. Toaster oven would work too, just have to get to 300-350...seems to be how they do it...or salad bowl finish...

Ive been using a jigsaw...but its really crude cutting...lol Id like a bigger band saw one day but I need to organize my shop better and move some stuff thats in the way to even have a place to put it..for now the little one is good because it takes up less room. but its good for small projects like these spatulas etc...

I use the salad bowl finish. I wonder what the difference is.

I picked up this one a couple years ago. Love it! I haven't used it for resawing yet, but I'm sure the day will come, and I'll likely be very happy that I got one with such a huge resaw capacity (12").

Hey all! For anyone who does woodworking I am looking for input on a good top coating (clear) for a wood dining table I am redoing.

I just finished prep and sprayed several coats of Flat Black oil based Rust-Oleum paint on the top, it looks good. I don’t want a shiny look so I am looking for a clear that will accomplish this.

I was thinking of an oil based satin or matte poly but not sure what the better choice would be, brand and type.

I think I would look to spray this on as well. I was told that to get the look I want that I would need several coats, sanding In between, then a rub down on the final coat with “0000” steel wool.

Anyone have any advice on this?

    Thanks in advance.

Is there a reason you're putting a clear coat over the paint? If you're looking for durability, a clear coat wouldn't necessarily be more durable than paint. And if something does get nicked it's more difficult to repair. That being said, if you do want that look of clear coat over paint, I'd just go with a regular matte poly (oil based). Give the paint some time to off-gas before applying anything over top, or it could affect the the curing of the clear coat. I don't know about sanding in between for a flat finish. The only time I sand between clear coats is to achieve a high gloss finish.
    Post photos!

Awesome, thanks. Kids are the main reason. Its easier to sand out some thickly coated poly then its is to paint/color blend a whole table.
