I have a 98 Tacoma SR5 4x4. Recently the brake pedal has been getting spongy and soft, traveling further than normal and just not feeling and acting right. Last night the brakes began locking up as i got to the end of the long travel, it was wet but they hadn't locked up before and the truck would not stop coming down a small hill. The ABS light is on and i have not had a chance to check it but any ideas what might be the culprit or what to start checking? THanks for the help

rear brakes really out of adjustment .

some place your sucking air or losing brake fluid

Sorry to hear about your troubles....I would pull the wheels and do a break inspection on front and back brakes. Like the suggestion above - what is the brake fluid level? When was the brakes last inspected/new pads.
Keep us posted ... stay safe!

i've checked the fluid level and it is completely full. not sure if old dirty fluid could cause the issues?

Like mentioned above, fluid level is completely full. that was the first thing i checked when i noticed a difference in the pedal. Brakes have not been inspected in a while, i need to do that, however did not figure needing new brakes would effect pedal feel so i was trying to get this figured out first.

Also, i'm a capable DIY mechanic but have not dealt much with ABS, will a scanner accurately give the correct trouble code since the ABS light is on?
