Please help coolant leak

    Ok so my 2007 taco 4.0 has 227,000 on it and runs great but last night I looked under it and seen signs I have a coolant leak. I didnt get a good look because it was dark but it us leaking on some block looking thing. I dont think it's the water pump tho. This thing is above the fan and goes into the block. Looks like it is leaking out of a bad gasket where they go together? Any advice? The water pump wouldnt leak coolant above the fan would it?

    Probably thermostat leaking. Easy fix if so.

    From my experience, unless the source of the leak is obvious, it might help to clean off the engine and I mean really clean it; then start looking for the origin of the leak.

    I'll check it out after work today. Ya I was thinking maybe the thermostat housing but I wasnt sure if that was it or not? Is the housing right above the fan on the block?

    Ok sorry about the horrible pic but here is where its leaking. Is this the thermostat housing? Black thing you can see where its wet on the left bottom

    This is what is leaking at the mating surface. There is a gasket in there right? And that is the thermostat housing?

    Correct on both counts....are you having any thermostat issues? or is it just a leak? might want to think about (consider) replacing the thermostat if you're having to replace the gasket...
    What are your thoughts?

    They have a kit at autozone for 40 dollars thermostat, cover, gasket and seals. I'll replace it all after work

    Judging from the pic I’d replace the nuts too. They look pretty crusty. Hope they come off for you. If it’s a slow leak maybe soak them good with some penetrant first and let them sit a day. No reason to make your life harder.

    Here is the thermostat inspection and install instructions from the FSM. Gives the torque specs.
