We should all go in on a small shop in the twin cities area and specialize in fluid film application. I couldn't find a single shop in the area that would apply it... Feel like we could make a killing!

same here where i am at in NE/IA
nobody has ever heard of FF at the local shops and dealers it seems
they all want to apply the rubberized undercoatings
i explain to them what happens over time, and there are videos out there, and they still don't seem to get it
they just tell me, 'well i did my personal truck 2 years ago with the rubber and its still doing good"

i am testing out this Canadian rustproofing spray along with FF in the wheel wells and front suspension, i will be interested to see the results of both as winter drags on.
so far i just have pics of both products doing their job on the front suspension with a bit of overspray on the front frame in the wheel wells with some de-icing spray in there from this past week

I work right next to a shop that does the rubber stuff, Ive been thinking about having them spray just the underside of the cab, leave the frame alone, I dont want that on my frame. I figure the cab has corrosion protection in the primer, but it lacks any protection for that primer since toyota didnt paint the underside of the truck.

your 3rd gen probably has a different material under the bed than mine so you don't need to worry back there? i have plenty of worries with mine being all steel bed

i had my cab and bed undercoated/noise proofed with some rubber stuff when i bot it new before i drove it home. but its aged almost 23 years now and it stuck well but rock chips underneath and behind the rockers has chipped it to the metal, not to mention the damage i did with the sandblaster ricochet a few months ago

i have not yet figured out what to do about the naked steel under the cab yet other than butter it up with FF

the underside of my cab still looks brand new. The frame and suspension components have a few small rust spots but I've coated it in FF this year.

what do you think i should do under my cab at its age?
i need to get a gameplan going for next year
nobody in the 1st gen section on TW really cares about any of this stuff, most all are from CA,AZ,etc
i already had one car in my life just rot through the driver floor pan and snow always coming inside on the floor in the winters lol

Is it the Canadian made Corrosion Free 3000? About 6 years ago I did a test with CF 3000 and FF. Kept it in my heated garage which is 38-40° during winter and prime rusting conditions. Why I park the truck outside.

Treated the steel wool with each plus used a control piece. Rinsed under tap water for 30 sec. and sprayed with a salt water brine solution every couple of days. Wanted to see which would stay on the wool better by simulating a car wash.

Control (which has reached destruction, it separated)

Fluid Film ("hole" rusted and blew threw it)

I used CF 3000 for a few years but haven't done anything in last couple of years. It appeared to me that CF3K stayed on the metal better than FF when hit with water. Like not having a truck payment but will likely just trade it in next year or 2.

    interesting stuff, very scientific!
i do not have a heated garage, could be why its not worse under there then it is at the moment
the CF3K has some chemical makeup that reverses polarity to act like a magnet which is probably why it sliiterhed all around the metal with the air gun around curved surfaces like the driveshaft and sway bar
    with no funky smell lol

I was just talking to my dad about this last night, he lives in florida and arizona, I live here in the great salt flats of MN. But I park my truck outside so I never have standing water on my truck. Its either encased in ice, or dry as a frozen bone. The garage has 2 other cars (1973 Challenger and 1991 BMW convertible) but the garage gets locked shut in the winter, the garbage cans and snow blower live in the backyard.

Next year I am putting the challenger in storage though, and pushing the BMW into the corner so my wife can park in there.

The best equivalent I can find is a place that does Krown in Thunder Bay. It is an oil based spray I think, not the crappy rubberized undercoating that can just make things worse over time. Krown seems to be a very common underbody spray for Canadians and in the Northeast/New England areas. Also after the initial spray you can bring it in for touchups every fall for free or cheap, from what I understand. Unfortunately that is a 5-6 hour drive, isn't it? Maybe ok once, but probably don't want to have to do that trip every year. Wish they would put in a shop around here!

Thunder Bay is an hour and a half from Grand Marais. I have an Enhanced Drivers license, because Canada. Although when I hit Grand Marais I am usually making a left up the Gunflint Trail and spend my fall grouse hunting there. Or off the Caribou Trail, or Arrowhead Trail, etc.

You do need to have Krown reapplied every year. Canadian Tire will apply CF 3000 although many in Canada consider Canadian Tire a joke and better off doing it yourself.

Yeah first picture there is definitely a Chevy dash. Looks exactly like my 1999 Blazer I used to have.

Just got the EID as well when I renewed, so I'll be set to head up to the great white north if I ever want. Unfortunately trying to be sure to get up there every year in the fall would get to be a pain.

does your area in MN not have the routine storm freeze thaw storm freeze thaw snowbanks melt freeze again repeated cycle like it does often here in NE and IA?
i have always done my best to get to the DIY wand wash when i notice that white haze on my black truck in the garage disappears in the morning due to above freezing and or humidity, and the chemicals start getting real active
there are spots i have missed underneath because they are just difficult to get to on my feet since my truck is not lifted or anything above stock height for a compact 4wd

Sometimes, usually we just have the storm, melt off driveway, pool up at bottom of driveway, freeze, street becomes 2 inches of ice.

Generally the weather by me is either snowing, or -30 degrees... at least thats what last year gave us, this year is looking to be about the same.
