Personally, I'd gladly pay the extra $100 for 3-4" of additional lifting height that some of them allow for. But, you're right in that it can be tough to pick between these jacks as they're so similar. I do suspect the higher priced ones may have better components. I believe there's some info on this over at garagejournal.com

This should be in quotes on the wall by the checkout line

I got my Low pro long reach jack for 169 this summer. But Haven't seen them cheaper than that.

I thought I was being smart by buying a 6" riser from Harbor Freight for my floor jack. Worked great until, after leaving it in over several uses, I tried to remove it. It's "press fit" in now. Looks like the sloppy weld just mashed into the plate in the arm. Been that way for a decade now. I suppose some day I'll find a piece of round bar stock that I can use to pound out the riser. A couple of washers between the jack's plate and the riser would have prevented it. :hattip:

The 3 ton harbor freight doesn’t have any trouble with the dually. I don’t know how it’ll hold up long term, I’ve only had it about 2 months.... but I like it so far. This one replaced my 4 ton Craftsman.

So is something like this with only 18-1/4 in. of lift a bad idea?

Bottom of my tacoma is 13.5in. from the ground now and will be closer to 17in once lifted. ~1in of clearance doesn't seem like enough for any sort of tire work

I bought the $150-ish aluminum HF jack about year ago and it was nothing but trouble. It immediately leaked from the cylinder, etc. It actually broke on me a few weeks ago while my car was in the air - it wouldn't go up or down any more. I bought the #3 from the original post and it's a beast. The only "negative" is that it is very heavy, over 100lbs.

No complaints on my HF jacks (5+ yr pitt, 1 yr daytona). The #3 Daytona is massive.

I have one and it's fantastic. I'm usually not the one to brag on Harbor Freight, but if you compare the specs on the this one to pretty much everything else out there, nothing matches it. I'm not scared to spend money on tools and this one is just a great jack, regardless of the price. You have to wait for it to go on sale, because the coupons pretty much never work on these.

I just used it this morning to check the bearings on my boat.
