My steering went tight Friday I first noticed it. MY fluid was good, tire pressure was also so pb blasted and greased up the u joint yesterday. Appears to have fixed the issue as for now. Thanks for the prior posts everyone

I used this thread to determine my issues with my steering as well, so I will share my experience.

Some local TW members and I drained my PS fluid and refilled it. Appeared to work just fine after that. But the tightness returned. I was waiting for a warm day to try PB blasting and white lithium grease. Also wanted the warm day to get an underbody wash before I did the blasting and greasing. Gave my wheel wheels a good power wash as well as the steering shaft u joint. The tightness has not returned since that power wash. I am assuming there was a lot of build up of mud, dirt, ice, who knows even though my eye test indicated nothing appeared out of the ordinary.

I will wait for an even warmer day as a preemptive measure to pb blast/grease up the u joints.

Thanks everyone! PB Blaster and my steering has returned to normal. Will buy some grease and hit it tomorrow. This buys me time to organize a cost-effective replacement strategy.

I also ran into this issue over the summer, and tried the WD to loosen it up, then lithium grease, and it's been good ever since.

    You guys are the best.

My 2012 Tacoma start to have stiff steering a few weeks ago. I tought it was because of the winter tires, so I checked tire presure and tire rotation. Everything was good. Today I did a search on the forum and saw this thread. Here it's winter with temperature below 0. So there's no way to wash the U joint. I looked at it and there was a bit of rust but not like the one on the video or the pictures. So I spray a good quantity of WD40 to clean it, and then spray a lot of motorcycle chain lube.

It work, the steering is now working very good!

Thanks for all the info on the thread, it save me a lot of problem and money!
