What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

What's the difference between an ABC vs BC fire extinguisher for use for "OVERLAND AF" usage? I feel like having an ABC is best for campfires, truck fires, cooking fires, gasoline fires...

 

Took the Tacoma out for a drive today after 3-4 weeks

What do you guys think? Put it back together or swap out the parts? I haven’t gotten them yet. But I did clean them up a tad





Also my plunger was stuck to the top plate. Kind of think that was the issue

 

Mine don't have that

 

The mystery continues lol. Seems more 01-04 trucks do have the frame rail wings and earlier ones don't.

 

It's all pro, I'm amazed you got instructions at all. I would never expect anything of theirs to exist and be right

 

They're actually downloadable on the website for all their armor, dunno if that's a recent thing TG did or not. But it would seem they got mixed up on which truck had those particular wings on the rail ends

Good looking man. The parts are cheap enough that I'd run to the auto electric house in town and replace em. That's the two contacts and the plunger. If you were wanting to run as is without replacing anything, I'd remove the two contacts and file the pitting out of them before reusing, same on the plunger surface that contacts those two contact pieces. You want a nice even clean uniform contact surface area. Be quick to do and would only help.
I'd also check the bendix make sure it doesn't feel hitchy/notchy during engagement. I lightly lubed up a few things with silicone as mine was ever so slightly 'hitchy'.
Looks like the OEM Denso starter so def worth taking care of instead of throwing in some reman. You'll reman it better than any of those mouth breathers that do the remanning for the ones the auto parts sells

 

Got my bumper painted and mounted up, as well as a grille insert I found for cheap on offer up.

 

That's good to hear. Since it was so easy to get it in and out I threw it back in. Started up after one to two clicks and was fine. Drove it around a little, since then I've started it up twice without issue. I'm gonna monitor it since I've got that eBay rebuild kit coming in next week if it decides to shit the bad. But yeah I'm not gonna replace it with a reman since I've heard they suck

 

Yeah that clicking is when the contact isn't quite clean enough to keep that plunger pulled down and then it finally does get solid enough contact and thus current moving through and you get started up

That's what I figured it was, so time will tell. Now just have to figure out why my font diff is leaking It never ends haha

Accurate. I like my lift and control arms from all pro, but their lack of instructions really sucked and their customer service hasn’t been the greatest. I did order my lift right in the middle of their being acquired by low range/trail gear, so I’m hoping that was their issue.
