What's the details on the "upgraded piston"? What are they custom valved to/for?

Fox makes a variety of different pistons for their product line. These have their “high flow” piston out of their Race series shocks.

Valving is to match the piston change and a 2nd gen with steel hybrid bumper, steel IFS skid, and sliders. Or anything close in weight.

The benefit here is the external adjust that the DSC offers. If you need to stiffen/loosen the valving up for a variance of weight or driving style you can do so within a certain range.

Tempting. I was just going to go with non-DSC that can be picked up for the same price but I'll give it some thought. Thanks for clarifying!

The non-DSC can be found for the same price, but you're not going to get the external adjustability that the DSC offers. Additionally, you're going to get the factory valving/piston which may or may not work for your truck. If it doesn't you have to disassemble the shock to make any changes, and any labor charges involved.

You're also not going to get the cerakote coating that these have which will provide much higher corrosion resistance for those Utah winters than the clear zinc that comes from the factory.

Understandable. I'm just trying to decided if I actually need the DSC. I've got adjustable damping on my Icon set up on my Cruiser and never adjust it. I had non-adjustable remote Icon's on my 2nd gen build and never wanted for more. Thus my dilemma...do I need that feature. I definitely want it though. Haha.

That's actually pretty common for people with adjusters. Sounds great in theory but most owners don't understand how they work so they don't use them. Especially with two different adjustments. I met @Redfive11 Sunday for something completely unrelated who had the DSCs with little concept of how they worked but also had a drive comfort complaint. I made a few turns on the adjusters and last we spoke he has been much happier with the change.

The way I see it, the price I have these listed for is a no brainer. Even if you don't see the DSCs being required. Let's stick to the number you through out of $1400. These are not exact numbers. Just painting a picture.

    Non-DSC Shocks- $1400
    Valving change (if needed)-$35/ea
    Cerakote- $70/ea
Labor to get cerakote done (full shock disassembly)- $200
    Upgraded piston- $60/ea

So you're looking at just under $1900 for equivalent shocks with no DSC.

What would go with these for the rear? *sorry If that’s a dumb question.

It's the same reason I haven't pulled the trigger. I'd be OCD about matching.

Not a dumb question at all!

That really depends on your type of wheeling. IMO, a rear shock relocation is the best bang for buck. For the price you spend on OE replacement, aftermarket shocks (that still limit droop) just spend the additional money and not have your travel limited. I personally have a 2.5x12" in my rear and it pairs nicely but most don't need the 2.5. I live in SoCal and the desert/Baja is my backyard so it was worth the additional heat dissipation for me. So a 2.0x12 would work well too and allow full cycling for MOST rear setups while saving a little cost.

You could go the 14" route but you really have to have the right setup for the rear of a 2nd gen to cycle over 12".

Otherwise, an OE replacement shock would pair nicely. Fox/Icon have some budget friendly options with aluminum bodies/resis that would pair well. Or you could go the 2.5" OE replacement that a lot of people run with great success.

Fox makes rear shocks that would pair nicely with these. You'd just have to source them. I'm not a retailer. I'm just a guy that likes learning about suspension setups. I also do installs so I get to see a lot of different options.

100%, I'm literally just talking color. Every shock I've found has been traditional silver/black. I've driven too many frankenturds to not be OCD on this truck. It's absolutely a great price like you've mentioned, and I already switched gears from Kings to Fox. From what I've seen Foxes last a little better as it is in weather, and I frequent snowed areas. The Cerakote is just an added bonus.

Well stickers are easy to change. That's not really an issue. matching the body color would be a little more complicated. I'd probably recommend finding an older set of shocks that need a rebuild and having the bodies/resis sent out for coating.

These do include the resi mounts. I probably should have mentioned that in the OP.
