I have ‘belonged’. I make a point to not trash Unions. They do it to themselves, I don’t need to.

My 2010 4WD TRD OFF ROAD DC Tacoma is now 10-years-old. It has only 123,200 miles on it. It was made at Toyota de Baja California and has been excellent considering where it has gone, all over Baja!
Only two things have needed fixing/ replacing that were not warranty covered: the front-left hub (bearings) and the rear-left drum brake. The engine and 4WD has been flawless and amazing!
I am happy to have a Mexican-made Taco... that is the way it should be!

Ive known a few people in unions and just like most groups some people are worth a damn and others are not. The difference is the union values them for their dues and couldnt give a shit about the lack of performance on the job. Its a great place for people who suck to hide.

the warehouse isnt a place for skilled workers. But lets be honest with the type of people they are hiring? The stories ive heard people shit in their hands and throw it at people, we dont put doors without view windows because the threat of people having sex in random rooms, cameras galore because product is stolen. Most of these people would be working at the local fast food restaurant because they have no marketable skills/education. But Amazon does pay them better than the local McDonalds

Depends on the union, but yeah, I had to join a grocers union in high school for a summer job. They were like the mafia... pay your dues or else. Most of the workers didn't think the union provided anything of real value. It was just, if you wanted the job, you joined, no questions asked.

Other unions I'm sure are better.

I had a union job and worked all alone for several hours each night. A union bigwig came to visit me one night and told me I was making his job difficult because I was getting too much work done, he wanted me to start slacking off because it messed with his headcount and company expectations. After he threatened me he then proceeded to tell me that our meeting never happened and he would deny it if I ever mentioned it. Thankfully I left that job shortly thereafter and they replaced my position with 2 workers.

Just like absolutely everything else that involves people, the idea is good but the reality is often a cluster-fuck of greed and corruption.

Teamster now, before that the Brotherhood. Unions may have their issues but they’ve sure provided me a good life and for that I am forever grateful.

Are you in one? They negotiate your compensation, vacation time, pension, ext... I guess it depends on what you do and what union you’re in but some are very strong and desirable, others just take their cut. Hopefully you’re in the former.

my bumper is misaligned on my 2020 Pro. Makes you wonder if they just slap them together and ship them off? Did anyone do a walk around once complete? It’s easy to spot.

    Teacher's Union Here:
Positives: I have a good life
Negatives: The "least" of us are Union reps as in the laziest and dumbest. Too many shitty teachers able to keep their jobs.

Unions are their own worst enemy. I believe the job of the Union should be to protect the "average Joe" from being preyed on by unfairness, not protect the shit and allow them to keep being shit. In fact, by protecting the lazy, you actually make the average Joe's job more unsafe because you move the needle closer to "lets close it down and move it to Mexico."

Let's look at GM plants. Ill bet if GM was able to cut the bottom 20% lazy asses whom the Union protects, the other 80% would be much more secure in their jobs because the product is better, which means more customers, which means more stable jobs.

    Depends where you live.

Around the East Coast, police, fireman, teachers, skilled building trades come to mind as having a strong union presence.
