We have a baby, no momma. It’s been out here for 10 minutes.

Well, the WMA was a success. Unfortunately we only hunted the morning hunt. Dad was in the hot spot. He had a “good buck” run in on him just after daylight but he couldn’t get a shot. We weren’t 100 yards apart but I couldn’t see anything he could see and vice-versa. I heard something running the ridge behind me about 10:30 then he text me and said something ran 3 does down to him. Never saw what was running them. At 10:50 he said something was coming my way in the creek. I saw something limping around. Finally got about 50 yards and stopped behind some holly bushes so I didn’t have a shot. He was limping bad. He tried to jump out of the creek and I thought he was about to fall over dead he was so wobbly. He headed back toward dad to I text him and told him to get ready, I didn’t have a shot. Dad put him down. Nothing big, but it’s a free WMA deer. There was a shot close by this morning and were thinking it may have been him that got shot because his back leg was snapped in half with a fresh hole/compound fracture...hence why he was limping and couldn’t hardly get out of the creek. 2.5 year old deer that weighed 67.5 lbs dressed. Tiny thing.

it was 52° and we were afraid he’d spoil in the bed Of the truck (no cooler), so we made the 2
Hour drive home. I was hoping to get to stay for the evening hunt since we know there’s a decent deer in there, but, oh well. Not worth a deer possibly spoiling.

Absolutely. Since it was a WMA Hunt I said i was shooting anything with horns. Was definitely gonna shoot him just to get him out of his misery. Glad one of us could put him down.

Mostly stock with a few minor mods.
Had the same situation in WI this year. I was in a double stand with my buddy's 13 year old son when a nubbin buck came out on us. Back leg was snapped. I told the kid to do the right thing and put it down. He didn't want to at first because it was so small, but I told him it was the right thing to do for the deer so he did. Someone had shot it in the back leg.

Got a 2fer tonight. Owner wanted the cowhorn gone, so got it and a 7. No brow tine on one side and a nub of one on the other.

Well, THE big one didn’t come by this morning, but another good buck came through. He didn’t give me a great shot. Had a really small window with him quartering away at about 125 yards. No blood, no hair. Something took off running when I was looking for sign but I couldn’t tell if it was him or not. Couldn’t see his head. If it was, he was running just fine. Only got a few more days to hunt before season ends. Maybe he’ll come back sometime.

I ended up not getting a deer this last weekend. We still had fun. We had 9 guys hunting in the group on Saturday and six on Sunday. We harvested six deer on Sat. and four on Sun. The only one worth sharing a picture of is a 9 pointer (should have been 10, but one broken tine) that Darren got out of the first section we hunted on Sun. morning.
