Be patient. I got one a few weeks ago. Dealerships are getting training and equipment to do the treatment. According to my dealer, no vehicles are being treated yet.
The process is pretty complex. It’s essentially a foam that is applied via a wand to the inside of the frame channels. It literally fills the frame with a foam-like substance.
Common surface rust will not qualify a truck for treatment. It must be a hole in the frame or risk of imminent frame integrity issues.

Just enough to get you by for about 10 years or so, then your shit out of luck. My suggestion is treat it every year with fluid film if you plan on keeping it beyond 10 years, if not let toyota deal with it with their treatment.

I have a 17 and live in good old Rusty upstate New York. I was at the dealer a few days ago with my wife’s RAV4 for her 5k service and asked them to run my trucks VIN to see if anything came up for rustproofing.... nada, so I guess I’ll be waiting as well. FWIW I park mine for the winter anyway but will prob let it get treated pending positive feedback from others.

I plan on letting Toyota treat my frame but I also intend on continuing to FF yearly.

Damn.....I thought this was over with. I thought it was just a 2nd gen thing and the newer Tacomas were in the clear. I will be on the phone tomorrow morning for sure. Its irritating to know Toyota wouldn't fix this problem after all of those frame replacements.

Why doesn’t Toyota do something about this during the actually design/production of the truck? Can’t believe they are already sending this out on 2017s. They obviously know there is a problem.

I got the letter, but it stated that is was only valid for certain cold states that are known to salt their roads. Being in California, it was not one of the states that qualifies to get the treatment done.

Quite honestly it’s hard to pin down wether frames are still boo or this is people fingerpointing at the very valid initial class action lawsuit/buyback on early gen Tacos/Sequias/Tundras and say Toyota is still at it using shitty frames. Like that case set a precedent that Taco frames were shit and any bit of rust now is just assumed to be poor frame coating from factory.

Does anyone really think that the current Tacoma is magically prone to more frame rust than any other Toyota model? I mean if you look at the 4Runners, FJs, and even Lexus line equivalents, they experience the same thing, and it’s called age and lack of maintenance in most instances. I have my own gripes with the way those frames don’t allow good drainage but that’s a totally separate issue.

Bottom line is coat your frame inside and out with the product of your choice and top it off after winter and prior to, and your truck will be fine. Right now Toyota is simply trying to push itself far away from the rust issue and the only way to do that is coat frames and if they last the industry standards of 15 yrs that is the assumed vehicle lifetime, then by those standards they’ve done what was required.

Solid comment. I asked about mine when I got my transmission TSB done, and knew about the process from an 03 Tundra that went through the same process a few years ago. I was told that they were still waiting for corporate to come out with the details and procedure, and also that they would not be using the same waxy substance that was applied to the Tundra, which is promising. I don't have any other details, but it appears that service centers are in a holding pattern as well waiting on Toyota.

Got my letter and my 17 Tacoma was inspected. Was told they can only do 3 or 4 frames a week and I am on the list. Said there was no rust on mine but they are doing it anyway because NE Ohio uses so much salt on our roads. During the winter I pressure wash the frame every week. Looks like that has been paying off. Said they saw a 2016 with frame damage. I agree with earlier comments about Toyota not fixing this. You pay $40-45000 for something that could be junk about the time you pay it off. Toyota knows that. I love my Tacoma but wont waste my money buying another one. I just hope it lasts.
