I recently purchased a Tacoma from a used dealership and noticed today that my check engine light does not illuminate at all - not even when the key is on the "ON" position. I haven't had ECU scanned for codes yet, but with this suspicion, I'm sure there's a code or two.

I'm hoping to backtrack whatever was done to disable the light. I imagine the easiest way to disable it is to remove the fuse for it. Does anyone know which fuse this one might be or have any other ideas how to begin diagnosing this issue?

    Thank you much.

It might be taped to hide the CEL ..

What suspicions do you have? I mean if you haven’t physically checked for codes then you shouldn’t jump to conclusions that the CEL is bad or tampered with.

There is no fuse just for the Check Engine LED.

Go to page # 3 of the print and you will see that the CEL or Malfunction Indicator Lamp has 12 VDC on it all the time when the truck is on. The ECU switches the ground signal to turn it on or off.

Either the LED is burned out or someone removed it from the combination meter circuit board or taped over it.
