Hello guys! I'm new to this forum .
I have a 2002 4x4 and I just replaced most of the parts on the front end due to bad boots on the CV axles. After reinstalling new CV axles one clumping when I drive it so I noticed that one seems to have slack where it goes into the differential. I can move it up and down. Is it bad or is something going on with my differential ? Thanks for any advice!

Are you sure it is fully seated in the differential ??

Both out board ends looked the same when the nut was Torqued ??

Perhaps one was boxed wrong .

Then just what brand did you go with I have heard issues with fitting

It appears to be fully seated.
Yes both ends appeared to be the same when torquing.
I bought them from advanced auto on line
    Car quest brand.
    Thanks for the reply !

Sounds like it didn’t seat all the way in. It’s really tricky to get them to “click”. I would pop out, re-orient the clip with the space at 6o’clock and retry popping it in with a dead blow hammer.

I did my front axle seals this summer and one side fought me a little. Like the post before said, I had to pull it out and re-orient the clip to get it to sit right.

The one on the driver's side usually has a bit of play in it...by play I mean you can pull it side to side maybe 1/4 of an inch of so. Up/down play doesn't sound right to me, sounds like it's not in all the way. Is it leaking gear oil from where the axle goes into the diff?

When I install mine, I put the axle nut on the end threaded about halfway and then hit it with a hammer to make sure it goes all the way into the diff. Make sure to keep the axle nut on the end or else you'll mess up the threads.

I haven't seen anything leaking out of it
It feels like the shaft was machined too small to me. It does appear to be all the way in the differential though. Thanks for the advice!

Are they OEM axles or did you go with Napa or something?
