Tire Recommendations Please For My Beloved 2002 Tacoma

    I would appreciate some suggestions for a set of 215/175/R15 tires for my truck. My truck came with Firestone and I've bought Kelly, Goodrich, and my latest set was Kumho which I didn't like at all. I'm retired now and drive a lot less than I used to but still to the gym four days a week and essential misc. Errands plus the occasional highway drive. I'm keeping my truck forever so a good long lasting, smooth riding, and fairly quiet tire is essential. Thanks for all responses. Am looking to spend no more than 400-500 out the door.

    Agreed here. I've got the Defender LTX on my 02 Xtra cab 3.4 TRD. I've had them on the truck for almost two years and around 15-20k miles. Normal tire rotation intervals along with both city/ highway driving, they have shown little wear and are in great shape. Seem fine in all weather conditions, have only tested a few times in more than and inch or two of snow although no issues to report.

    I used to work at Firestone and we never had complaints about the Destination HT2's but I don't think they'll be in your price range.

    Discount Tire usually has the best prices and they'll match and beat anyone.

    Kumho's are absolute garbage. Had them on my wife's car and I'd rather have a chinese tire on it than those pieces of junk.

    FYI, the Lifetime Alignments are a fantastic deal. Normally they go for $149 (unless it's changed im the past couple years) but you should be able to talk them down to $100 if they're looking to hit their goal.

    The OP stated a budget. Michelins aren't coming close to that number.

    I've become a big fan of Cooper tires over the past ten years. Typically their AT lineup. I see they make a budget tire called the Trendsetter SE. It appears to be made in USA. I have no experience with that model.

    You don't need much tire if you're just puttering around doing errands. I strongly suggest investing in a better tire if you face winter driving conditions. And avoid the Chinese and budget SE Asian tires like the plague.

    I agree with Post #7 Hankook Dynapro, I'm on my second set, and really like them. Never had a problem and only 1 flat.

    I get 100K miles per set on my Michelin tires, so even though they cost twice as much they go twice as far. They are outside of Pub-7's price range, but it's a tall order asking for something that is long-lasting, smooth, quiet and cheap.

    If you have a Discount Tire in your area, I would talk to them about different brands and price points.

    While these tires are in a whole different price range, I've been happy with the Defenders from Discount Tire. Service after the sale has been great.

    Good ride, quiet, handling, mileage, check all of the boxes.
