I was at Courtesy Chevrolet in Houston, when the Zone rep showed up in one of these, Marked "Sprint " I was a blast to drive, but dangerous, incredible Torque Steer. I am pretty sure we didn't order any of these, this is the first one I have seen in many years.

i was going to ask hows shifting into reverse for all you manual owners. used to be, years ago, you would always have to shift into 2nd gear then it would slip into reverse.

I can't remember what our 1995 was. I know it had TB injection and a cable clutch that needed a half turn adjustment every spring and fall. The skinny tires were problematic though.

Torque steer was a feature, not a problem. Hahaha! Our saab was a TS monster also. Between differential wheel spin and the rack mounted on the firewall, it made 1st and 2nd a ton of fun.

That thing was very interesting for sure, we had lots of fun in it. The turbo was super loud too, made you feel like you going faster than you are haha!

It sounds like the saying holds true. Driving slow cars fast and all that.

It was as close as you got to driving a go kart, low to the ground and loud. Oh the good ol times

Good thing there were no internet forums back in those days.

I always try to grab first before stopping if I know I coming to a complete stop. Once everything is lined up I go into neutral if sitting for a bit. If I don’t shift into first before stopping the ol second to first trick is the protocol.

My 2019 TRD Sport does this every once in a while. Just put it in neutral. Release the clutch. Engage it again and it should go into 1st. This has worked for me every time now.

I do not think I’ve had this problem. I have hit reverse a few times looking for first.

I do the same. Never had an issue going into first doing this.

Gently put it into first as you're rolling to a stop. If you're at a light or whatever then go to neutral once stopped. Goes back in gear when ready with ease.

its pretty normal for manuals to not go into 1st some times .I have had this happen on a few other brand vehicles Honda dodge so on .What I find to help is when your coming to a light go to neutral wait till the vehicle comes to a stop then shift to first . It worked for me .

OP, I had the same 1st gear issues. It's just a new and tight gearbox. Put some miles on it and it will get better. Mine did not loosen up til 7K miles or so.

My Gen 2 wouldn't go into first periodically. My Gen 3 is the same. What works is: shift into second gear, let the clutch out just until it starts to grab, push the clutch back in, and then it will go into first no problem.

I appreciate all the feedback. It sounds like this isn't uncommon. I was reading a lot of hit another gear and then back into first...that was my first thought as well... never worked. I tried every gear and back to first and it wouldn't let me until I double clutched it. I got my truck back today...much better than the Rav4 loaner. The official answer was "over-engineering" but they couldn't find anything concerning. So the plan will be to swap the fluid and see if it will lessen with time. Hitting the clutch again doesn't bother me...but as I said in the original post, wanted to make sure there wasn't any wear and tear occurring or something I'd regret when coming out of warranty. My prior manual's have had their own quirks (Ford, Jeep, VW) but I just hadn't experienced that one before but I feel better after hearing all of the feedback on here. Happy to have my truck back and will update on the fluid swap! Thank Again
