Took me ten seconds to remove both license plate bulb housings using the tool Beergeek recommended. Squeeze both tabs on the bulb socket holder from underneath and push the bulb socket out thru the plastic surround on the bumper.

I paid $15 at Lowe’s for the Irwin Vise Grip brand compound 13 1/4” long bent needle nose pliers. Previous bulb swaps left half my hand skin on the tow hitch assembly surrounding the bulb holders.

I just swapped bulbs yesterday by removing the housing and can second that I left a lot of skin behind as well as sweat and tears. I’ll definitely be using these pliers next time!

Thanks for the post! I didn't realize such a basic bulb swap could be such a pain in the ass. I also lost a fair amount of knuckle skin two weekends ago while installing my new VLED license plate bulbs.
I need a pair of these!

i replaced the whole assembly with an led, and just crushed the tabs with screwdriver, it broke apart and was much easier to remove since i was not going to ever use the oem again.......new one is very bright......luv it......blockers are for babies
