Most likely won’t happen with Tacoma’s. Unless you get a 2020, all the previous years run a 2.0 entune system. I believe 3.0 is required so it would require a whole new unit rather than just an update.

I hope we get this retrofit, although am skeptical since we have the 2.0’s. They’re already taking away 3rd party apps, lost Pandora and about to lose movie tickets and only had the truck for 5 months.

Most likely not going to happen. And what does vehicle cost have to do with it? I don't know about you, but I didn't pay luxury car price for mine.
Would it be nice, sure it would, but the system is probably not built to handle it, which is why they released Entune 3.0.

It's a freakin software build, shouldn't be that hard to upgrade the OS.

New software often is NOT compatible with old hardware. This is especially true when you're dealing with 1 off task specific hardware. Even if it was compatible, making the software changes required to get it running on the old hardware costs money and can only generate problems, not revenue. Think about it for a second.

CarPlay and android auto require certain hardware to run. And I believe they require a certain (security) chip built in for security purposes but that’s a moot point. Anywho, if entune 2.0 doesn’t have the “requirements” that Apple and android, heck even Toyota, require for it to run as intended, then it won’t happen.

I want it as much as you, but I’m being realistic.

Well, I know that Mazda recently started offering CarPlay and Android Auto. What they offered for older models was a retro-fit that costs around $300. Mostly because they have to install different USB ports and some hardware pieces. So maybe Toyota will offer a retro-fit for a small fee, in which they replace some hardware and voila!

And if that’s the case, great!! But in no means will this be a straight forward software upgrade.

I have CarPlay in a vw, I’ve used it about twice. It just doesn’t seem that useful to me. I hear some systems allow for wireless CarPlay, which would be better but mine needs a direct wired connection which is a pain 90% of the time.

I used CarPlay often when I travel for work, because a lot of the rental cars have it. I kind of like it, but it can also be a PITA when trying to use the GPS or something. But I think CarPlay's benefits are still great! You get Apple's maps, which are always being updated automatically.
