So im getting my parts together for my lift and gonna pick up tries soon and called a couple of the local shops here in Hawaii about installing my lift and doing the needle bearing upgrade....so a few of the more popular shops that do lifts here in Hawaii all said they have never heard of or replaced that needle bearing or heard of any customers complaining about it.....

So whats the deal with that? we have a lot of lifted tacomas in Hawaii and these shops lift tacomas a lot and never done that before or had a customer go back to them for that problem...….

anyone on here from Hawaii had their needle bearing upgraded with the bushing? or do Hawaii guys don't have problems with it?
and if anyone had it replaced down here- what shop did it for u?

All depends on how much you/they are lifting truck. 2" of lift and no problems on mine (oem needle bearing)

2.5" lift and diff drop here as well. Had the driver's side bearing start to go after only 5K miles. IMO you're better off just having them install the ECGS bushing while they're in there instead of doing it later.

    Thanks
I’m planing on lifting my 2019 or Tacoma with eibach pro kit and rear aal. I expect 2” of loft upfront

I just find it odd that the shops never installed these before down here which is like the lifted Tacoma Capitol of the world

No really noticeable noise. It was a rhythmic grinding vibration I could feel in the steering wheel. Like driving over very minimal rumble strips every 3-4 seconds. The rhythm did not vary with vehicle speed. Mostly evident below 45 MPH.

Was it very noticeable? How bad was the bearing when they yanked it out?

Needle bearings are inherently weak to begin with. They break with no lift. Lifting just adds additional strain so most of us just replace it when we do the suspension because it’s pretty easy to do.

Considering how cheap and easy it is, it makes more sense to have it done.

That’s what I been reading.... I gotta see if my shop doing the lift is willing to do the bearing otherwise I gotta have the dealership service dept do it

some of these lift shops won’t touch the internals just suspension

I can’t imagine a shop taking longer than an hour to install it. I did mine before my suspension lift install and it only took 1.5 hours. Hopefully they do it.

Anyone know any shops or any people on this forums in Hawaii that can do this needle bearing replacement? Got cash to pay private party or if they know a shop to refer me to

I’d post something in the Hawaii region section.
