    Absolutely.
If my truck died right now, it'd be the Hybrid RAV4 vs. another Taco.

The RAV4 Prime is supposed to have more power than the 2GR V6 equipped version that died with the 2012 M/Y.

I had one of those, and it was a rocket (for a small SUV lol).

Yeah ~300hp on the Prime. ~40 miles EV only driving (to work and back) and 90MPGe...
I just really hope the price isn't too bad. The 2020 Hybrid RAV4 XLE I've played around with on the website is right around ~$32k.

(Not that I'm planning on my truck dying anytime soon...)

I only voted maybe because it depends on how it is executed. If it is a hybrid in the original Prius sense then I'd probably pass, if it is a plug in hybrid that can get 30+ miles on a charge before switching to gas then I'd be all in. With a PHEV I could get to work and back without using any gas, then have the gas for my longer trips.

    Hybrids fucking suck.

Twice as many things to break and go wrong. The brakes on hybrids are absolutely awful because of the total lack of consistency and smoothness of the KERS.

My 2007 highlander died at 140k, the rental i just drove around for a month while the idiots at the dealership monkeyed with my truck was horrible. I'll never own another hybrid. Ill wait for them to fully commit to and perfect EV thanks.

The 2021 RAV4 Prime mentioned above is plug in electric with ~40 miles pure EV. So I'm assuming it'll be something similar.

One of the reasons I bought my Taco is because of it's reliability. Going hybrid doesn't necessarily mean it won't be as reliable - but the question would need to be answered before I considered another one.

Lucky for me I plan to run my truck till it dies, and I assume EV will be dominating by then.

I wonder if hybrid means cvt, I doubt it but I also doubt they will have manuals available with the hybrid.

I for one would not get a hybrid, especially if I was doing any offroading with it.. seen a few videos of teslas that "water forded" and they're toast... electrics and water dont mix..

not to mention that they are heavy.. the Tacoma doesnt have the best payload capacity currently 1200+/- lbs.... not to mention towing capacity will drop as well due to GVWR.

while power, and efficiency would be great, the cons outweigh the pros in my case.. if I lived in a city and was 95% on pavement, 5% on groomed trails, and dirt roads then sure... but for how I want to drive, and places I want to take my tacoma its not a good mix for me. not to mention I live in the fridgid north.. that battery wont last long up here.

Wait... what? There's a low end torque problem? That's not what I've been told on here. :D
Ok, torque issues solved but how about distance? What if we're towing for a long distance? How long does the battery last if you're towing an RV, or what ever load, for several hours? Hybrid is great for a lot of people but not for everyone. I for one hope that the hybrid is an option and not the standard. Again, I am hoping for a naturally aspirated version of the V35A.

I'd rather it had a slightly larger engine or a turbo.

I wasn't at all interested in hybrids until the new rav4 came out. We were gonna get a rav for my wife anyway, but when you compared the gas and hybrid options, everything was better for the hybrid. We decided on the hybrid and love it. She had a civic that got worse mileage than the new rav4 in town which was 90% of her driving. My only regret is not waiting for the PHEV version, but I didn't know it was coming out when I was buying. If Toyota does a hybrid or PHEV version of the tacoma, I'd be all over that.

What do you think the chances are of the 4th gen having MT at all, even with the conventional engine?

It's going to be super hi-tech. Except they are going to use the same frames. They got a really good deal on them....

My wife owned a Prius a few years back and admittedly it was a lot of fun to drive, especially in sport mode, which made a massive difference in power delivery. I like hybrids far more than I like full electric.

I would totally rock a Hybrid Taco, but probably give it a few model years for them to work out the kinks first.

Probably very close to 100%. This is actually a segment that buys manuals, and most of the reason the high end sports cars have switched is because high power and tight gear ratios are tough to control in a manual. You don't have that here.
