Water Pump for Potable Water - Off Truck Bed Outlet

So my wife got me a submersible water pump for Christmas that will plug into a DC power outlet. She planned on using it to pressurize our water tank in the truck bed so that we don't have to unload it when we're setting up camp.

I've got a couple things I want to do, but honestly, have no idea where to start.

1) The pump only came with a DC power cable. What do I need to be able to power it with the AC outlet in the bed of the truck (would be the most convenient spot to power it).

I don't have the pump with me, but I do remember it draws 6 amps.

2) Going to need that outlet to be energized even when the truck is off. I feel like there was a mod for that somewhere, right?

Anyone want to point me in the right direction?

 

Get a marine power outlet and run new wiring. That way you dont mess with factory wiring at all and you can mount the outlet where you want it.

 

I guess I was wondering if there's some kind of AC/DC adaptor I can use?

That would bother me on a weird personal level. You have a DC system inverting to AC, which you are then converting back to DC. It could be done I guess, but why? Its just as easy to either exchange the pump for an AC unit or run a new DC outlet, as @windsor said.

 

The truck bed outlet will only have power when the truck is on. The "anytime" in the 400w anytime mod refers to being able to use 400W anytime it would normally limit you to 100w - since by default it limits you to 100w when the truck is in gear (400w only available with the truck in park).

Do you have a dual battery setup yet? Might be time to think about doing some electrical work and adding some 12v plugs out in the bed. I run my water pump off a 12v socket back there.

 

Yeah I'm limited because it was a gift from the wife.

No AGM yet. It's on the docket but I've got a lot of other mods taking priority first. Kind of looking into a simple solution for the meantime.

Clips directly to battery, so truck doesn't need to run. I would also recommend keeping a simple voltmeter around to monitor the charge left on your truck.

 

I have considered the same thing on the last few vehicle’s I’ve owned. I always end up running a new 12v.

 

Hey, this is a great solution! I have the below GOOLOO jump pack and the 12v adaptor. I've run my 12v pump off it before. You can use it as a jump pack, too. Last time I used mine I had three GoalZero lanterns chained to it for about 3 hours and barely used any juice. The cigarette lighter comes and goes on availability, you just have to watch for it.

EDIT - and I almost forgot, my wife uses her 12v heated blanket with it when camping. It'll run 15 minutes before some safety thing kicks off and you have to press the on button again, but it works great.
