Was wondering what you all thought about having a different colored topper on your Tacoma? I've been search for a matching colored topper for awhile now and have had no luck... I just found a sweet deal on one, but it's not the right color. I definitely can't afford to buy a brand new one as I'm looking to do some overlanding and need to save money for other things.

Forgot to mention I'd be putting a white topper on my grey Tacoma.

I guess it depends. on how the two colours go together. Some look pretty good. While others look pretty bad.
But if it's a good deal, and it's one that you want ,other than the colour. You can always paint it later when you have the cash avaliable. What other people think be damned! !

Just saw your update about it being white.
Buy l still say you can paint it later a more complimentary colour.

    Why not paint it?

Even rolled on paint matching looks pretty good. I think most will admit that the topper is for being used and the matching of color is just a bonus. who gives a shit if the topper doesn't have perfect paint.

You're right. I actually just love the color of my Tacoma and would love to match it. But yeah, at the end of the day I bought so I can go and do cool shit. The look of it shouldn't really matter.

Do you know how hard it is to paint it? I heard repainting fiberglass toppers is a pain in the ass and I have no experience with that kind of stuff. Hoping my Tacoma people can help give me some insight.

Just finding a topper that fits our trucks is a win. Color isn't a deal changer for me.

Here is my Tundra. It don't match at all:)

I still want a ST for the Tacoma.3IV9rCVG8v9H3e8bG8bTe13gHKn3fCTqDSLaHx9m_3437b2190cff8c1445e2937a36c0c967a4bbfa0f.jpg

White on grey, no problem. Blue on red, no. Many years ago, pretty much all toppers were white, and they were called a canopy.

Bottom line is it's your topper on your truck.

I'd buy a topper that didn't match if it was a good deal and one that l wanted.

Mismatched on purpose. Magnetic grey with midnight black metallic. I really like the magnetic grey but felt like it would be to much with matching topper. I'm happy

My 95 Tacoma. Found the shell for 30 buck and never worried about the color

When I was looking for a used topper for my 2015 MGM all I could find was one in red and wasn't cheap so I passed. I haven't painted a topper before but don't think it would be to bad. As with any paint project good prep and taping will go a long way to help with finished product

That color combo would work for me and lots of options to make it White if you ever wanted to. Mine is white on white but designing a new topper and I dont want white as its too much white for me. Will be doing some variation of a muted grey.

I bought a white ARE MX for my '99 AC back in the day, and paid like 200 bucks for maaco to paint it to match. Turned out fine and paint lasted til I sold it in 2011. All boils down to your level of vanity. I used to care, now I'd be happy to just find a used MX to fit my 2011.

I've actually wondered why there aren't campershells made out of the same material the Undercover tonneau lids are. It's a textured composite and I think it would look pretty good with most colors.

    9VutMznGaD.jpg

I drove around with a pyrite mica campershell on a timberland mica truck for 6+ years. It was close enough that it didn't bother me, but had I been able to get the right color for the same money, I absolutely would have. I just recently had it painted to match.

Buy it - put it on - see if you can live with it - if not - paint it. That's what I did some 30 years ago with one of my S-10 trucks.

I'd probably do some sort of textured/matte black if I got a cap. I think all barcelona red is a little too much red for me. Or I'd just go Softopper.

You could bedliner it if you find somewhere cheap enough to do it, or roll liner it yourself. Or like someone else suggested, just get a cool wrap on it.

Different colour, different size. It's made for a 6.5' Dakota, but for a $200 it beats the hell out of buying new.
