2019 quicksand TRD sport build

Hello everyone. I have been building cars since 2000 and have quite a few under the belt but this is only my 2nd truck build. I had a 95 Nissan D21 hardbody that I did a lot of stuff too and it was my baby, the one I said I would never sell but a few months ago when coming up to a stop sign, the guy in front of me went then stopped again. I didn't look back when checking left and ran into the back of him Rather than get it fixed, I decide to go ahead and get a Tacoma since we have a family of 4. My first ever new vehicle purchase too!

It's a 2019 desert sand quad cab TRD sport 6 speed manual.

Luckily, I had already converted my D21 Nissan to fit Toyota wheels with a set of Stealth Custom Series F5's. But then upgraded to Volk TE37's so of course, the first thing I did to the new Taco was to swap the wheels.

I then installed a set of Morimoto XB LED headlights and have since installed a new set of OEM Tundra LED projector fogs (not pictured yet). I have an OEM TRD pro grill on the way and once my 700hp E55 AMG sells on Bringatrailer in about 2 weeks, I intend to go further.

The Tacoma is my daily driver but I would like to be able to do some light trailing if the mood strikes. The next order of business is to get either Bilstein 5100 or 6112's with some OME front coils and rear leafs. I want to add a front bumper/winch, Prinsu roof rack with light bar and a Stealth Fighter rear bumper. Having a hard time trying to decide between the 5100/6112's as well as trying to decide whether to do a full high clearance front bar or just the center bar like a C4.

My main project cars are my 1984 Nissan DR30 Skyline RS turbo and my ultimate build for SEMA 2020, a 1986 Nissan 300zx that I have spent the last 2 years building and is likely 6-8 months from completion. Also pictured is my beloved D21 (RIP)

 

I just installed bilstein 6112's and 5160's. Don't use an OME spring on the 6112's, it comes with its own springs. So far the ride is really improved, pretty excited to see how it rides once it settles more.

 

Ah, ok thank you for that input. I was originally looking at King or Fox setups but I think those are all overkill for me and street comfort is my main concern. I love the stock ride but I would like a subtle lift of 2"~

 

I went with a minimum half inch in the front and nothing in the rear. Looks good so far. I couldn't find a better price than headstrong Offroad and they will preassemble the fronts for you so it's an easy install if you plan on doing it yourself.

 

Your RS looks amazing OP!!! I’ve been looking for one for a very long time and is impossible to find one this days.

Thank you! I had to find the car myself in Japan by searching dealer and auction sites. Then paid a guy to go inspect. I had my friends at Japanese Classics import the car for me. It's phenominal and almost twice as good as I expected. Likely the second best in the country next to Strawfab's car.

That are adjustable up to 2 inches I believe. I was just looking for a better ride and a tiny bump up in the front. They ride great so far, very pleased with the value of them. They are much beefier than stock as well.

 

Aha, I see. Man, you aren't kidding, they are beefy! I don't see how they would adjust though as the lower collar doesn't appear to be threaded.

 

You have to take the spring off to adjust them. I had mine pre built at my desired lift when I bought them.

 

That makes a lot more sense. Thanks for the input. I will keep researching. Bilstein's site is a bit confusing in that they state the 5100's are better for the daily driver but then go on to say that the 6112's excel on road and off.

 

The 6112's ride real nice and the 5160s I have out back are just 5100's with resi's and it cleaned up the back end suspension nicely.

 

Love the hardbody man. Had an 89 as my first car.

 

Holy crap..rarely see a nice R31 skyline these days...my buddy had a R32 before he decided to wrap it around a pole lol.

id say for a street truck, they suggest 5100 bc its plenty good enough and cheaper. I went 6112 front and 5100 rear. The trails I do arent crawling, more forestry roads, so i wanted the larger diameter shock body. Pretty happy with them. I wish they had a touch more dampening.

The Skyline easily gets confused for an R31 but it's a 30. I actually sold my R31 to buy it because I prefer the styling of the 30's. I bought the 31 first because it was local and my first RHD car to make sure I didn't mind it. I was concerned that I would hate driving on the other side so much, I didn't want to spend too much without some solid drive time. I had the 31 for about 3-4 months before I decide to go for the gold.

 

I love to see JDM car guys getting into Tacos and carry their style/vibe over to the truck world. Also that Nissan! What power plant are you putting in there? Had a built/show SR20 510 a while back and I still miss that thing.

Wow, impressive to have you posting in my build thread!! I love your stuff and plan to add some components.

The Z31 has a fully built to the 9's naturally aspirated RB26. A 2 year build with every possible aftermarket part. My machinist modified the combustion chambers, did a full port/polish on a flow bench, took a mold of the cylinder/chamber so that CP could 3D scan and make custom oversized 11.6:1 pistons etc. 77.7mm stroker and custom bored RB26 ITB's. Hoping it makes about 300 at the tire and the redline should be 11k. Here is a reasonably short build thread on the entire build over the last 2 years.

I also built a wicked 510 about 10 years ago and 5 years ago, bought a 16k original mile, original owner 4 door. My most well known builds were the LSx 427/T56 Magnum swapped BMW E39 wagon and my 2001 BMW E38 740 M sport with a fresh built supercharged M5 S62 V8.
