So the mechanic said my low compression in number 1 was caused by the valve allowing the compression into the exhaust. Questions. 1) Is it worth checking if it’s because the valve tightened up? Have seen another post that suggests that it is common on the 2.7’s to do this. 2) if I have 150 in the rest of the cylinders, if I rebuild the head, should I just fix the 1 valve or do the rest. I’m worried about hurting the lower end. 3) Should I get a straight swap or rebuild the original. 4) Should I just get a new motor. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Mitch

To answer question #1, this topic has been discussed many times on TW. 2.7L cracked heads (not saying yours is cracked) have been reported by many on here, and the cause was listed as exhaust valves getting too tight with age, and lack of maintenance.

I would definitely check it, as well as the others, before committing to have the head rebuilt.

Fixing a head doesn't hurt the lower end. Old wives tale. Er, mechanic's tale.
