Sooo sorry to hear about you loosing this cute little guy!!! Way too early and way too young. Even though you didn’t tell him until the end he knew you loved him from beginning to end. He is in good company in kitty heaven. RIP Sterling

So every couple of weeks my youngest daughter and I go to the humane society for what we refer to as "shelter love". I normally get 3 or 4 pix of various kitties. But today we focused on one in particular. Pretty cool story.

She was listed as a 3 year old stray. When we opened her cage she backed away. I finally got brave enough to reach in and try to touch her. She was not aggressive but clearly scared. When my hand would get near her she would lay her ears down, close her eyes, lower her head and let out a little cry.

This animal had clearly been hit before. So over the course of the next half an hour or so we took turns petting her with some breaks evey couple of minutes for her to decompress.

I tried a few times to pick her up. She just spread eagle, closed her eyes and cried. Eventually I got my hands under her enough to lift her up. Her little heart was racing and she cried and shook.

My daughter sat down and I handed her off to her. She talked to her and held her close, allowing her to bury her head behind her jacket.

Another 30 minutes later....this was her. Purring and driving her head into my daughter's face. Yes...that's my daughter crying having made the breakthrough. She's very emotional about cats.

This doesn't alway work out as the scared and/or abused ones can be too aggressive and dangerous to interact with.

    Bless you.

My dogs are all rescues. I have one you can tell has been abused before. We are his fifth family. We’ve had him for almost 5 years now and he still shakes and cowers at times.

Good for two for re-establishing trust in people. Maybe just you and you're daughter for for now, but it's a start.

Thanks everyone. I forgot to mention that her name was "Joy". One of the workers told us that it was so nice to see her like that as they really hadn't made a breakthrough with her yet. I may have helped...but credit goes to my daughter. Such compassion that child has. ♡
