Heading up to the flats on Sat morning and camping thru to Sunday with the wife. First time going up there, hoping for dry as I still have paper plates and a 2 week old ceramic coating.

My daughter just asked a couple of days ago when we will be going camping again. I love it that they enjoy it. Parts coming in, so I would be able to head out there in January or so.

I'm new to the whole camping thing here on Oahu as I recently purchased my Taco. I'm pretty good at camping in general though, I've spent many a night in the Kahukus. The Army has taught me how to sleep outside very well haha.

Where are all the places to camp here? I just applied for my Ka’ena Point pass, but not sure where else to go or to look. I'll do some google searching after this, but I'd rather find the "not so traveled" parts of the island.

there are plenty of places you can just go out and “camp” (sleep in your truck). Question is if you want to sleep with one eye open or not. Lol. Technically with a hiking pass, you can sleep (if) 10’ off the trail at peacock. Or you can just get a campsite, and have a shelter. Just depends what you want, and who you going with.

Kaena Point is the first place I think a lot of people think to go, but it's really not a big offroad spot. Lots of rules from people going bogging and tearing it up. The best is head up to peacock for remote camping or just use the campgrounds around the island, I think. In my experience, people buy passes for peacock and then don't show up a lot. One time I went, all the passes were sold out except 1, so I bought it, went up, and turns out I was the only one all night! If you get the hiking pass to stay overnight, maybe you can grab a campsite if the person never shows up? Either way peacock is beautiful.

Would I be able to take a stock OR up to peacock? I was looking at a video of a group of FJs going and it looks pretty sweet.

Yup. The main road is just a dirt road that leads to the top.

Yah, permits for campsite B were sold out, yet we were the only ones up there. 2 trucks had spots at the A sites. Very cool area, wife and I did the short hike that goes to the top of Makua Valley. I even got a little adventurous and did a small side trail detour that pushed my trucks limits a bit. The road was very easy for my truck, having the mud tires likely helped with traction as some inclines were a bit wet. Didn’t lose traction once the entire drive, but could imagine it being a little sketchy with heavy rains. Riding dirt bikes on trails makes me truly understand how different it can be wet or dry.
