I'd love to find a nice used shell/topper that is custom made to fit my '16 DCSB, but do I have other options that will work?

Other years of Tacoma OR other manufacturers (Ford Ranger, for example)?

No, because the bedsides are different heights on different platform trucks they just won't line up.

The only options you have for your truck is a topper for a 3rd gen Tacoma short bed ('16-'20)

If you had a long bed you can use an ac/dc but they might not line up to the cab perfectly.

I have a topper for a 2nd gen access on my regular cab and it fits fine but doesn't quite follow the back of the cab quite right.
