An reason a 5.29 over 4.88 other than the utilization of that 6th gear?

other than my bumper and said tires I don’t have a whole lot of weight added?

LS swap particularly needed for a tire addition, I understand re gear but your talking a whole new price tag with the swap

Regear on a Ford 9" rear end, then switch to an Allison transmission.

Well, I'm sure I'll just get flamed for this, but I've been doing this a long time, so here goes. The Tacoma just does not have the stones to run a tire that big without problems, including drivetrain breakage, that is if you intend to use this for offroading. Mall crawling I suppose you could get by. You can regear way down, but you still have the same HP at the end of the day to turn an enormous amount of mass. The rear diff is just 8", marginal but workable on this truck up to maybe 33's. I've been running 255/85-16s for a while, at 58lbs each, and they suck a lot of power. I just went to another tire in the same size weighing only 50lbs for that reason. I saved 32 pounds. If I just had to have 35's and really planned to use them, I would want the following:

    lower gears
    a Ford 9" rearend
    alloy CV axles
    a V8 swap
    4 wheel disk brake conversion

    Or another vehicle altogether

Ok, let's hear why I'm wrong, I've got the violin out.....

37's and 3.73's gets you 1700 RPM at 65 mph and an extremely quite cab, lol, and it still has a lot more power than a 1st gen. So yeah, go with the 6.49's.
