My wife got me a tri-color LED tailgate light bar for Christmas and I'm looking into hard wiring it into the stock towing harness. Can anyone point me towards some schematics about which wires controls which lights (blinker, brake, running) and weather or not I'll have to wire the reverse light into the tail light separately or if that's also in the tow harness on a 3rd gen.

    Thank you, and Merry Christmas!

I took a pic of the front cover, and used that as a guide. That's all you really need. Yes, you'll have to tap into the reverse light in your tail light. Won't find that in the tow harness.

Yellow center wire is back-up, for an FYI on 7 pin.

For ease of install and a clean look when I installed my OPT7, I used a CURT harness 56584 plugged into the towing harness behind the bumper... it allowed for the white reverse wire too (using a bullet connector) so I didn't have to undo the taillight to get to the reverse. Here's a poor pic of it...

How does the court harness connect behind the bumper? This looks like the best option by far, definitely interested in any details you can share.

The harness (see pic, yes I save all boxes..) comes with all connections needed. You detach your existing 7 pin plug from behind the bumper outlet, plug it into the harness and use the plug on the harness as your new 7 pin plug for towing. The harness has a 5 pin plug tail on it that your new light bar plug attaches to. Use a bullet connector for the white wire (reverse), zip tie it all together and you are good to go. I took a pic of the connections best I could...

Just an FYI for installers of tailgate light bar... Don't cover your spare tire lowering access hole. I've heard of guys, whom have.

Thanks for this write up! This is exactly what I needed to know for my '16 TRD Sport. No fuss, no muss & the bullet connector is an awesome tip!
