Pioneer AVH-W4500NEX vs Alpine ILX-107

I am looking to upgrade my head unit in my truck to one of these options. I dont know a ton about AV, looking for opinions and suggestions, pros and cons. What’s does everyone think??

 

I prefer the pioneer personally

Pioneer has HDMI input
Pioneer has front and rear camera inputs
Pioneer plays CDs/DVDs
Pioneer has 13 band EQ (alpine has 9)
Pioneer also supports android auto


Alpine menus seem dated. They work fine, but they just look like a touch screen from 2005

Those are just my main points. There are probably others

 

Too much nope for me with the Alpine, I wouldn't touch it. Destin is right about that 2005 stuff. A modern HU from Alpine should be more yes than this, especially at $700.

I’ve got the 107 and it works fine for my needs. It’s all about what you want? Do you want wireless CarPlay, then it’s perfect, if you want the ability to do hdmi, etc then might want something else. For me the wireless CarPlay was the selling feature, everything else was secondary. Pair it with the maestro rr to get a lot of data about your truck and other cool features. You also run accessories from the HU, not sure if the pioneers does but it’s another plus.

I have the ALPINE 107, couldn’t be happier. I found a used one on EBAY with the Maestro RR included for $550.00 shipped. CarPlay is excellent. Touchscreen is excellent. Siri’s is handy where you can send and receive messages and make calls through voice commands. Installation was easy with the design of the 107 where you can lay wiring on top of the back of it instead of trying to stuff it back into tight spaces. I have the factory rear view camera wired into it where now I have back up images on both the mirror and the head screen. I also have connected the gauges readout through the OBD2 plug in cord which is handy when I want to get maximum fuel mileage or monitor tire pressures. You can punch in any song on your phone and it plays through CarPlay. Everything is wireless which is nice. Great reception using Bluetooth. Lots of adjustments possible for audio etc. One can wire in a front camera or video if wanted. One can pair up several phones if needed. Wire is available for Android if needed. One can wire in videos if you want. Good luck

Just got the pioneer installed yesterday. I was torn between the 2 but really was looking for wireless CarPlay. Pioneer delivered that and had added features. Made the decision easy. Again it’s only my 2nd day so can’t really give a full review.

 

I've had the Pioneer 4500nex installed for over a month now, wireless carplay has been quick to connect and has been working flawlessly. I got lucky, our local Best Buy has been routinely selling them $100 off in store, not advertised.

AVH-w4500NEX. Wireless CarPlay is a must over wired in my opinion. Love having HDMI inputs from the pioneer. The AVH-W4500NEX has a resistive touch display which is nice. If your budget is bigger pioneer makes a model that has a capacitive touch display, the

pioneer avh-w4500nex used. but want to make sure it fits right. where did you guys get your dash kit? and how does it work with back up camera on rearview mirror? does anyone have pictures of theirs installed

 

Just went on crutchfield and it says this head unit does not fit my 2013 with non jbl......are they wrong?

 

It fit on my 2012, it just tight space. I have to cut some plastic on the bottom behind the stereo to hide some wires. I got mine from Amazon.

I even put front camera, I use this with a switch to turn it on and off so you can control the image using the stereo.

Thanks for link for back up camera Balot64, just read it and doesn't seem to complicated... last couple questions sorry if im a pita lol.... but did you have to use the little aftermarket microphone for bluetooth (i hate those lol) or were you able to hook up to factory mic and were you able to get you steering wheel controls to work with your headunit. i'd hate to add another mic for bluetooth and lose the capability of steering wheel controls

Also all the controls on the steering wheel are working like the original stereo, except on the volume +, if you hold it, it change the screen to tire pressure/transmission temp.....etc.which it’s better, that’s why I’m not using my UltraGauge anymore. I did tried to use it at the same time with the stereo using a OBD splitter, the problem is, the stereo don’t shut off.
