Howdy. I own a 2004 Tacoma 4X4 4cyl 5spd with a manual transfer case. I've been looking at options for a rear driveline disconnect for flat towing it behind my RV but don't really want to go with the Trail-Gear one that will loose the speedo drive. Trail Tough makes one that replaces the rear yoke of the transfer case that looks like it would do what I want. Either of them say they only work on the 'gear driven' transfer cases. So my question is: Is my transfer case gear driven?

There you go OP, average of 104.5% certainty that it is chain driven.

Just remove the driveshaft. Or put the transfer case in neutral when towing. What’s the issue?

Yeah, I can crawl under and remove the driveshaft, or just disconnect the rear of it and figure out a way to strap it up securely, but don't want to have to do that if I can avoid it so if I pull into a town and want to go drive around for the night etc...

As far as putting the transfer case in neutral, it seems like than should work fine but Toyota says not to flat tow it and I've heard things about lubrication not getting to seals (can't remember transmission or transfer) on them.

    Any luck @azadv ?

I'm looking for solutions to flat tow our '07 4x2 2.7l AT behind an RV...

Have you looked at Superior Driveline's driveshaft disconnect?

In my research, someone wrote that disconnecting the driveshaft doesn't solve all of the problems, because in that case the hubs are turning the rear diff vs. the driveshaft...and that can cause uneven wear (according to the person posting that info)...I'm wondering how much of a problem that would be...

    Anyone have any idea?
