Has the Transfer case shifter gotten so worn when pulled back into 4 high it no longer really goes into gear ??

Since in some cases 4Low is seldom used .

Was the shifter removed for a clutch change or any other reason ?? I have seen them installed backwards

Since 4 Low works I would look at these two things

Also possibles contacts are worn out depends on the use of 4 high over the years

Physical damage to wires is also possible

I’ve checked the operation on both switches on either side of shifter and are both working properly, when I jumped the switch for 4hi nothing happened, when I jumped switch for 4low light came on front diff engaged.i then shifter transfer case to 4 hi and I then had 4wd.so I guess my question is where do these switches send the signal to? Directly to front diff actuator? Couple one side of it be bad?

Both the 4 High and 4 low switches when closed go to ground completing the circuit.

Is this a case where the 4x4 has not be engaged for a very long time?

The contacts might just be dirty from not being used

Sounds like the ecu isn't receiving the signal from the switch in high. There is a small ecu behind the passenger kick panel for the 4x4. If you have a copy of the fsm it should give you the pin outs.
