Thinking about doing a whole new stereo system in my 2017 TRD sport, quad cad. I currently have the JBL stereo and things are starting to rattle and I want something better.

contemplating keeping the stock deck but doing all new speakers and bigger sub.

wanna see what everyone else has done!

    nothing as of yet
I just bought a 13 and the stereo is junk. So I would literally gut whole thing and start over

I have put in Racesport gen3 leds I'm the process of doing a custom audio overhaul which will include Hybrid audio unity 6x9 mid bass, unity 3 inch mid driver in the dash and fiberglassing tweets in pilar soundeading all the doors, floors, and headliner and I will be using a helix processor to retain the factory radio and as far as subs I might make custom brackets to move rear seat foward a few inches to get a full size sub in there or I might just go with a pair of jl tw5 or tw3 and it will all be powered by jl audio HD amps or I might try out the new hybrid amps
I swapped my headunit since my oem started to fail. I have access to all the major headunit brands available because I manage a high end audio store! I went the the stinger elev8 for two reasons number one it has fiber optic output which I wanted to send into my dsp and number two the traditional double din radio looks cheesy to me since there smaller then the oem screen so I flushed my radio in and it looks pretty oem. But if your going with. Traditional double din I recommend kenwood excelon line they are amazing radios.

I kept stock jbl head unit added new speakers and sub. Head unit puts out good sound (so long as it comes from right source ie. from head unit, not tapped from rear speaker wires). But be prepared as this is a big install with about 20-30 hrs of labor if you make your own amp rack, sub box and do sound deadening with a cost of about $2000 with higher end speakers.

cost to have a shop put it in that I got quoted $5-6000 labor & system. Made it easy for me to know I would be installing it.F58B4DB4-DCCC-4F54-BE45-553EFF0AA867.jpg

What equipment were you quoted for for 6000?

The killer was going to be the labor, for what I was looking at was about $2000 in parts and he estimated about 20-30 hours of labor at a shop rate of $100/hr. That was to do fab work for box and amp rack and tweeter pillars as well and sound deadening, not just basic install. My jaw hit the floor as well!!

Then after combing through pages here and checking out other setups and of course finding Mr Marv and talking with him for a while about things, I found I could get a better quality setup for far less.

Sound deadening and pillars, if done right, are a TON of work. That estimate actually doesn't seem that far off base for a truly good shop. Pillars alone require a skill set that few have mastered. Sound deadening, again done correctly, is also very time intensive and not easy work. Consider that the entire interior must be carefully removed, several layers of materials applied to fit the vehicle (nothing pre-cut or glued), then the entire interior carefully replaced with everything still working correctly. 30 hours actually seems a bit low for the whole shebang, but maybe I'm just slow. Modern vehicles also have airbags and sensors everywhere - adding to the struggle. You could not pay me enough to install in modern vehicles.
