Fluid Film in Spring?

    Got my 19 TRD Sport last August. Intended to fluid film the frame and underside before winter but then winter had to come here in early November before I could get to it.

    Any tips on how to clean the underside and before fluid filming in the spring now that it's already been exposed to salt and brine? Or is it not worth doing now?

    I would wash religiously this winter and then get under there in spring and spray it down, look for any rust or chips and sand and paint them. Then I would coat it. That said, I used RP-342 (cosmoline) not fluid film. After a lot of research, I believe it to be superior and has done well so far this winter.

    I read about this here:

    Take a lawn sprinkler and position it under the back side of the truck and let it rip

    Move it forward incrementally every few minutes until you reach the front.

    This should work now if it's above freezing and will remain that way until the water dries up.

    In the spring, spray the frame with simple green and let it soak in before the rinse.

    You can fluid film the truck in the spring, I do mine twice a year- fall and spring.

    Just power wash it. Go to self wash and spray the hell out of it. 3rd winter/salt/brine. No rust at all. No protection, except on my Bilstein's (15 trd pro suspension)

    BMW used to spray cosmoline in their engine bays at the factory, it was up to the dealer to clean it off, but most didnt clean it off. After 28 years and 256,000 miles, my bmw engine bay is still covered in cosmoline.

    Same here. It has an odd smell that lasts a week or so before it wears off, but not the offensive dead whale smell people complain of with FF. And the cosmoline eventually dries so it won't have to be reapplied as often, and isn't constantly attracting dirt.

    You have that critter trained to wash his hand before supper I see...

    All kidding aside, that type of sprinkler is what I use and it really does a good job of washing off the undercarriage- relatively easy way to get it done - thoroughly - imo.
