Didn’t see any write ups on this. Thought I’d do one. Also, if anyone has anything I should do different please post it so I can learn.

    PSC TC pump SP1200x

    This is a 2009 tacoma with a 4.0 v6
Old pump had two mounting holes that were within 1/32in the same spacing.

The PSC pump had smaller bore mounting holes.

The TOYODA pump had 1 hole that was threaded and 1 that a bolt passed through and threaded into the bracket.

    image.jpg

On the PSC pump I drilled out the holes where the bolt goes all the way through.
    Used a 10.1 MM bit.

I tapped the hole that needed the bolt to tighten into the pump. It was M10x1.25 thread.

    BCA266F0-EE92-4E2B-9524-AF3FACC1B15A.jpg

PSC pump is not as wide. I had to put some washers between the bracket and the pump to be able to tighten it down.

I pulled the stock pulley off the old pump.
I pressed it onto the PSC pump about 90% of the way because the shaft sat a little back on the PSC pump once mounted.

I’ll have to get a pressure line made for AN6 to the IFS box. And make an AN10 line to the reservoir.

    hopefully it works.

The part where you stacked washers slides around in the hole it may have slid tight against the pump as you tightened the pump. It does look like a large gap though and you still may have need to put some there just not as many. I know of a couple people who have done these pumps and they required some stuff done to them like this. From what I have been told is the Howe is a little better set up but you now have to send a pump to them to have them make it as they stopped manufacture of these pumps but will still modify them for you.

Yeah once it slid further out it got loose. But it does slide. You’re right.

So far it is a much more responsive steering. I think I need to increase the size of my feed line from the resi to the pump though. Its hollering like it is being starved I believe. That or the pump is bad from the factory. Hopefully thats not the case.

    May need a larger reservoir.

Figured out the squealing. Did 2 things, changed the feed hose from 3/8 to 3/4 (honestly should've done this the first go round), I also forked over the cash for PSCs Swepco 715 power steering fluid. Pricey but it works good. Very happy with the outcome now.

Yeah it’s just the PSC bump, a drill bit, and a tap. Then you can use AN fittings to connect your hoses back together.
It’s much better than a stock pump.

You also increased the line size correct?
Did you add in a cooler and the PSC filter reservoir as well?

    Truck looks insane man!

I’ll be running this power steering set up for my IFS.

I’m working on assembling a kit to sell to others. Thanks for this write up

Hopefully it helps. I also hope the rack can handle the pressure that these pumps put out.

the only thing I’m trying to research if the factory pulley size is sufficient for that pump.

but I’m going to fab a bracket to make them fit better as well as pre-tap the pumps.

also gonna add the cooler and ad a reservoir filter combo. After talking to another pump company a big problem is the fluid foaming when hot. The filter should help with that.

From my understanding though the racks are known to jump teeth, they hold fairly well. It was the factory pumps that couldn’t keep up.

mine is so bad on 33’s aired down to 8 psi in the rocks i can’t steer unless I’m moving.

mom jumping to 35’s so i need to correct this

    This should do the trick.

Any issues with yours thus far?

    The factory pumps suck.

hence why when you hit a bump you get a significant amount of bumpsteer.

when crawling if my tires are aired down, i can barely steer. Having a better pump eliminates these issues

No issues, but mine is for a steering box and hydro assist, not stock steering.
As far as the pulley size, iirc you have to calculate the RPM of the pump based on pulley size.
Pumps are rated for a certain RPM. I believe at rev limiter, with a stock pulley, I was right at or just under max RPM for the pump.

they put out a higher PSI which makes your steering easier under load.
