I find that going downhill or sometimes after downshifting that my transmission searches for a gear or just plainly slips up to the point where it grabs. Truck will be going in for its last 2yr or 24K service. What should I ask to have checked as we all know Toyota will say its all good and its only my imagination! Vehicle has 9K miles!!

If you can take the service advisor on a ride and duplicate - you will get a higher likelihood of them doing something. If you drop it off and don't go with them to try and duplicate it is likely they will do nothing - even if it means checking the transmission fluid level.

You should probably drive it more if you only have 9k miles...

Before you go, find a route you can drive with the service advisor in the truck with a known location the issue will occur.

Your description of the issue is pretty vague. I mean, I think I understand what you're getting at...but most auto transmissions will "search" for the right gear when applying throttle after coasting down a hill.

Probably your imagination. These transmissions are pretty bulletproof.

I have driven enough vehicles in my time to know when a transmission slips (58 years). It should not have me going down hill or on a flat service and then having a feeling of nothing being engaged, then pull when it does. That's how accidents happen. It has never done this before and has only been an issue lately. Not my imagination!

Vehicles have changed a lot over the years with a lot of new features. Maybe it’s something you aren’t use to that’s normal now.

It is what it is but its an issue and not my imagination! I may be 58 but I only stated that as a base point as I have worked on MANY vehicles, not just Toyota! If no one has had my problem, personally worked on their vehicle or just does not believe it could be an issue based on their experience, so be it. Been there done that!!

Quite a few 2016-2018’s came from the factory low on transmission fluid. Maybe yours was one of them and it’s just now showing some symptoms? I imagine it would have to have been pretty dang low from the get go though.

Mine was slipping , took it in and it had a code stored so that told them what to do . They did a flash or a TSB and I haven't noticed it since .

I agree check the fluid level I think that may be the problem. Low fluid will make the transmission act funny.

Had the truck in at the dealer awhile back and at that time they checked the fluid based on a TSB. All was allegedly good. In the last couple of weeks the tranny shifting issue has come about and I am getting ready to take her to the dealer, hence the questions. I will take
the service advisor for a ride if necessary.

I would not trust a word those people say, just from my personal experience with them. Toyota makes excellent product but their customer service is horrible IMO.

I wish when the truck has a code stored that needs attention a light would come on .
