I got my last oil changed about 1k miles ago. Today I checked it and it seems to be overfilled. I checked it probably a dozen times just now. The truck is level, no change in performance or otherwise. My trusted mechanic did the last change--not some quick lube place.

How overfilled is it and is this something to be concerned about? Thanks!

Maybe they didn't convert quarts to liters? I'd guess half a liter or so over?

I had a "friend" who dicked that up, luckily he had just installed a fumoto valve so he just drained the extra bit.

Yep looks overfilled. 1st gens use very little oil, just 1.6 quart, so it's easy to overfill...

BTW, the engine was stone cold when I checked it. It's been sitting for two days.

That's the way you're supposed to check it. In a shop environment, often the mechanic doesn't wait long enough after shutting off the engine to check the oil level, because time is money. At that point the oil level will read low (because the oil in the engine hasn't fully drained into the pan), prompting him to add more.

Ok that makes a bit more sense lol, so @IFGD is about a quart overfilled.

OP I would drain some of that out. Based on the dipstick you could be close to a quart over filled and too much oil can cause serious issues.

Drain some out, seals leak when you remove vapor space.

That's what I estimated by looking at it. I've just never been clear where the danger zone is when I comes to overfilling. I know some guys on the other car forum that I frequent intentionally overfill their engines a little before running their cars on the track.

So, is a quart over in the safe zone? Should I just send it and forget the reading or is this much over doing harm?

I know if it was severely overfilled I'd be getting all sorts of expensive smells, sights and sounds from the engine.

Also the crankcase can whip it up into a frothy, aerated mixture...frothy oil doesn't lubricate well which is bad news for the engine

You're probably fine but with how easy it is to drain some back to the full mark I wouldn't hesitate to do it personally.
Or you can pull and wipe your dipstick a few thousand times until you remove about a quarts worth

Just had to replace my upstream O2 sensor. Probably not related, but I thought I'd throw that out there.

Probably not...its not uncommon for us 1st gens to have to replace o2 sensors, they don't last forever. I've done mine too

There are various "apartment oil change" oil extractor tools that can suck oil out through the dipstick, e.g. https://www.amazon.com/Outdoor-Products-T10064-Fluid-Extractor/dp/B006ZOVCAM/

Or you can loosen the drain plug, let a quart seep out, and tighten it again.
